O'Melveny has an immediate opening for a Human Resources Generalist in our Newport Beach office. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing support to all areas of the firmwide Human Resources Department, which includes HR policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, and employee relations. This position is also responsible for providing strategic support on key HR initiatives and projects.

The salary range in CA for this role is $80,000 - $100,000 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Participates in annual audits of internal processes, documentation, and job descriptions; ensures accuracy of responsibilities, consistency and compliance with FLSA and applicable state laws. Proposes changes to existing policies and procedures to ensure continued compliance with federal, state and, local laws. Manages and streamlines the lifecycle processes of an employee, which includes onboarding, training, performance management, development, and terminations in accordance with firm objectives, as well as federal and state requirements. Ensures immigration case files and Form I-9s are maintained and in compliance with federal requirements. Maintains employee personnel files and independent contractor agreements. Develops resources and tools to improve operational efficiency for the firmwide Human Resources department. Assists Directors with various HR projects as needed. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Experience

3 to 5 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in professional services, demonstrating a broad range of exposure to the major HR disciplines. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a consensus-driven organization and to create consensus-based support. Strong work ethic, with a willingness to accept a wide variety of assignments as required and work closely with law students, associates, partners, colleagues and team members. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Superior presentation, writing, and verbal communication skills. Strong time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet time-sensitive deadlines. Outstanding relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate equally well with senior administrative managers and staff, partners and associates across the Firm. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Extensive knowledge and proficiency with MS Word, Excel (advanced knowledge preferred), Outlook and other MS Office applications. Experience with Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), preferably Workday. Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and/or other talent management systems is preferred. Professional Human Resource Certification preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
