Your RoleYou will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice and support on a wide range of corporate matters. The Head of Legal / General Counsel will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will be the primary point of contact for all legal matters, engaging with and managing external counsel as needed. The ideal candidate will be a strong generalist with expertise in laws/regulations related to employment, business operations, and CPG.

Responsibilities and DutiesManage the Company’s general corporate legal activities including corporate governance, regulatory, and employment and HR mattersPartner with all areas of the business including Finance, Operations, Marketing and Product Development to advise on legal risk and business strategiesDraft, review, negotiate, and track a wide range of complex business agreements including commercial contracts and financing deals to ensure both business and legal objectives are metAct as primary point of contact for all legal matters, manage relationships with outside counsel and manage legal budgetAdvise on matters related to claims substantiation and product safety, including strategies to minimize and mitigate enterprise riskDefine and advise on advertising and marketing guidelines both for internal stakeholders and third-party partnersConduct periodic compliance reviews against external and internal policies including consumer privacy regulations, HR policies, and advertising regulations; advise on mitigations as neededDevelop and/or contribute to legal response strategy as needed

Qualifications and SkillsExperience:J.D. degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in California6+ years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on marketing, advertising, food and consumer protection lawSolid knowledge of state, federal, & global privacy laws, including CCPA and GDPRAbility to prepare clear, concise, and complete legal documents, reports, correspondence and other communications on complex legal issuesTrack record of excellence in corporate law including drafting commercial contracts and designing compliance processesExperience hiring, leading, and developing high functioning legal professionals to build a world class legal departmentIn-house experience at a consumer-packaged goods company or law firm experience representing consumer products companies required

Interpersonal:Team-player, hard-working, organized, & entrepreneurial in natureExcellent analytical skills and a strong attention to detailOutstanding written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skillsEmpathetic leader who can contribute positively to O Positiv’s cultureWorks well managing multiple responsibilities and can prioritize to effectively handle tight deadlines.

Hours and Compensation The anticipated base compensation range for this role will be $185,000-$215,000. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and local market rates.Job Type: Full-timePay based on prior experiencePosition will be based out of Santa Monica, Los Angeles - in person (Mon-Thurs in office/Friday remote)
