📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
DescriptionThe 74th Assembly District Office Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for high school students, college students, and recent college graduates to experience the work of a State Assembly office. Running from May to August 2024, the program exposes participants to district office operations and the varied aspects of a legislator's work. Interns engage in activities such as working with constituents, conducting community outreach, assisting community-based organizations, analyzing databases, and staffing the office.
Qualifications An interest in public policy, community organizing, political science, economics, English, communications, public relations or a similar area of study or career path.Strong written and oral communication skillsAvailability between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, and occasional weekends. Flexible schedules are available, recommended 10+ hours a weekFluency in other languages in addition to English, a plus
Essential Duties IncludeActive involvement in monitoring District and State issues, current events and relevant legislationAssist in research and planning of upcoming events and projectsProvide accurate and complete information in response to constituent inquiries and community issuesAssist with and maintain office procedures, routine correspondence, telephone inquiries and special projectsAssist in office communications to constituents through mail, email, and phone.
BenefitsAlthough unpaid, interns receive important benefits like working directly with elected officials, community leaders and local residents on issues and events related to the 74th Assembly District. Interns may also qualify for internship credit from their university or school, as well as earn a letter of recommendation from the Assemblymember.
