Engineer I, Systems Network
📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
The Systems Network Engineer provides direct operations and end-user support for ABS' global networks. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the local and wide area networks to ensure maximum uptime for users. The Systems Network Engineer will assist with designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of a new network, and maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary.
What You Will Do
Leading and participating in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, communication links, and routing protocols. Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks.Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, load balancers, firewalls, DNS, and DHCPProcuring network equipment and managing subcontractors involved with network installation.Configuring firewalls, routers and switches to maximize network efficiency and security.Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting.Arranging scheduled upgrades.Analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot issues in the network.Updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases.Create and maintain network topology documentation of logical network level, physical network design, VLANs, firewalls, and routing protocols.Reporting network status to key stakeholders.Provides on-site/remote installation and problem resolution expertise for data related hardware, including modems and multiplexes and expertise for communications management software. Conducts sophisticated analysis of on-site voice and data equipment, including MS Teams. May work non-standard hours (e.g., before 7 am and after 6 p.m. weekdays and weekend days) in order to support the network users who do work standard hours, as required. Acts as the technical contact point for network communication vendors, coordinating both technical and administrative issues.Performs facility surveys for network communications and makes recommendations for the layout and location of network components, equipment, cabling, and wiring.
What You Will Need
Education and Experience
A minimum of two (2) years' experience on VPN, QOS and VoIP is a plus or five (5) years of experience preferred. Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent preferably in Computer Science or in a related field, from an accredited university or comparable on-the-job experience.Industry standard certifications preferred, e.g. CCENT, CCNA, Network+.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Proficient with campus network design and troubleshooting including Cisco routers/switches/wireless/802.1x and Palo Alto firewalls. Thorough understanding of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model.Working knowledge of IP addressing and subnetting.Working knowledge of TCP/IP and various routing protocols including BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF, as well as 802.1Q trunking protocol. Clarity and conciseness in both oral and written communication. Extensive knowledge of Network Management tools is a plus. This includes ManageEngine OpManager, Netbox, and SolarWinds network monitoring software.Must be able to provide on-site installation and problem resolution expertise for data related hardware, including modems and multiplexes and expertise for communications management software. Strong, basic skill in utilizing standard end-user computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, communication packages, network diagramming, etc. Complete understanding of the basic telecommunications hardware including both voice and data equipment. Capability to effectively motivate co-workers and to lead workgroup teams of one or two other workers. Willingness and flexibility to work non-standard hours (e.g., before 7 am and after 6 p.m. weekdays and on weekend days.). Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System.Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
