๐ Role Overview & Responsibilities
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for routine communication with nursing program applicants and ensuring a smooth transition from Admissions into pre-licensure nursing programs. This position serves as a resource to Academic Advisors to pre-nursing students, including advising faculty advisors on details of university policies, and serves ex officio on the Admissions, Progression, Retention & Graduation Committee (APRG). This position also maintains and disseminates semester schedules, records of School enrollment, events, and student/faculty achievements. Additionally, this position is also responsible for coordinating the annual School of Nursing mission trip(s) and, in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator, maintaining the โPublic Calendarโ for the nursing classrooms, labs, and testing schedules. Assists Associate Dean with administrative tasks. This position may include opportunities for teaching in the classroom, clinical area, and skills lab.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Liaising with prospective students and the Admissions Department to admit a new cohort of nursing students each fall and spring semester.
Serve as point of contact for prospective students, both freshmen and transfers. Serve as Liaison to Admissions Department including NursingCAS. Compile applicant profiles to present to the APRG Committee for admission decisions. Send out letters of acceptance/denial to applicants. Organize orientation for new BSN students. Conduct tours of the School of Nursing Provide support for admissions-related events (Open House, etc.) Proctor Undergraduate entrance examinations
Other APRG-related tasks and projects
Track enrollment, assessment, and progression data. Publicize SON nursing scholarships. Send out failure letters and other progression-related information. Help identify trends and obstacles to retention. Ensure that tutors are identified, hired, and supported each semester, as well as track attendance in tutoring sessions. Provide support for events related to progression and graduation
Serve as Academic Advisor to pre-nursing students and resource to faculty advisors.
Coordinate advising of pre-nursing students with GPS staff and academic advisors. Assign students to faculty advisors when approved. Serve as the Academic Advisor at SOAR events. Serve as a resource to faculty advisors.
Work with the Undergraduate Track Chair and Clinical Coordinator to create semester schedules and maintain the School of Nursing calendar/space reservations.
Determine courses needed and the number of sections. Interface with the Registrar so that each semester schedule is accurate. Work with faculty to create final exam schedule and reserve computer labs.
Supervise Federal Work Study (FWS) workers:
Interview and hire FWS workers. Train and supervise FWS workers. Create and maintain any schedules outlining the hours worked by each FWS student.
Assist with school mission trip(s)
Assist Faculty coordinator to: Communicate and schedule with overseas partners. Set dates, plan, and promote the trip. Act as point person for registration, payments, etc. Accompany trip as needed. Responsible for finances for Mission Trips, including PO creation and fundraising.
Other Administrative Tasks
Assist the Associate Dean in collecting, maintaining, and disseminating outcome assessment and evaluation for accreditation and Office of Development reports. Assist the Associate Dean in updating the university catalog, handbook, and SON policies. Assist the Associate Dean with student remediation for integrated testing and student readmission. Assist with Inter-Professional Education (IPE) coordination.
JOB FACTORS AND REQUIREMENTS
Baccalaureate Required. (Health-related or educational field preferred) BSN or higher education 1-2 years of experience in a detail-oriented, administrative setting preferred Strong analytical and communication skills are an essential element of the position. ACCESS database knowledge preferred. EXCEL knowledge required
