Prototype Machinist

Machinist – Automotive / Prototype / Tool & Die Paul Russell and Company is looking for a skilled analog machinist to support a broad range of restoration and preservation projects. Applicants must have a willingness to learn from others, a desire to understand technology that is more than a half-century old, and the ability to produce work that is a strict replication of the design and craftsmanship of the original builders. Our machinists work closely with all other departments to support the preservation and restoration of classic automobiles; working with pre-WW II through 1960s vehicles, specifically European marques. The Machinist will work under the supervision of the Mechanical Shop Foreman, but is also expected to complete assigned tasks independently. Skill Requirements:Repair, create, and make parts to match samples and drawingsAbility to protype/model-make partsExperience with classic analog machine shop equipment; Bridgeport Mill, Engine Lathe, Precision Lathe, Precision Grinder, Grob Band Saw with Welder, Water Jet CutterProficiency with tools; Auto-CAD, Shaper, Granite Surface Plate, Die Filer, precision measuring toolsBasic knowledge of metallurgy, mechanical properties, material science, heat treating and hardness testing Preferred 7+ years of experience as a general machinist i.e. a job shop Professional Requirements:A positive attitude and strong, team-oriented, communication skillsAbility to coordinate and collaborate with all other departments / skillsetsPhysically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds without injuryFull body mobility and the ability to twist, turn, bend at the waist, and work on your feet for extended periods of timeAbility to take instruction, actively listen, and work independentlyMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work shop areaA valid driver's license and clean recordSample Job Responsibilities:Inspect, fixture and repair worn or damaged parts and fittingsFinish machine newly purchased parts for proper fitmentReverse engineer parts for reproductionFabricate brake cylinders, special fasteners, tools and fixturesRecondition Ferrari front suspension, clutches, door, hood, and trunk hingesManage outside foundry, water jet and laser machining vendors About Paul Russell and Company: Often described as a dream workplace for a hard-core car junkie with excellent automotive skills.
