What you can expect as a Music Therapist: As our Music Therapist, you will provide music therapy services to children in the Early Learning Center/Lower School Program (age range 3 to 10 years) and the Deafblind program (age range across program- ages 3 to 22). As our therapist, you will split services between the two programs (three days a week in ELC/LS and two days a week in the Deafblind Program).Instruments and materials will be provided in each program. You will create a therapeutic setting through the use of music for students with multi-impairments Treatment may include creating, singing, moving to, and/or listening to music. You will use music creatively to help students address social, emotional or physical goals and establish positive working relationships through shared musical experience in pursuit of therapeutic goals.

We’d love to talk with you if you have experience with:Planning and creating a general program of musical therapy ranging from passive listening programs to participatory programs involving singing, moving, playing, or dancing, and creating music (includes group songwriting; instrumental ensemble improvisational play; thematic songwriting for therapeutic goals; sensory experiences through music for those with hearing impairments).Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team in collaboration with members of educational staff and other related service providersAssessing how these needs can be addressed by music therapy; develops and implements a treatment plan tailored to improving physical, psychological, and social health as appropriate to a student’s goals and overall growth and well-being.Targeting areas in the music therapy setting can include support of language development and communication skills, social interactions skills, motor skills, self-awareness and social/emotional growth.Evaluating and documenting student growth within the setting.Preparing periodic reports for annual IEP, and modifying program as appropriate.

To be successful, you should have: Intermediate skills on a harmonic instrument (guitar or piano)Ability to work with a wide range of percussion instrumentsAbility to work with one’s own voice in service of facilitating music within a group or individual settingEducation/Experience : Bachelor’s degree with concentration in music therapy; Master’s degree preferred with experience working with special needs children
