Job Summary
The VP, Trading & Market Operations plays a pivotal role in our client's mission by overseeing trading operations and strategic planning within their rapidly expanding renewable energy portfolio. This key leadership position entails shaping and executing trading strategies, managing risk, and fostering alignment between trading initiatives and broader organizational objectives. As the primary liaison with the parent company, the VP ensures coherence between trading strategies and risk management frameworks.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Contribute to strategic planning initiatives, identify growth opportunities, and provide insights for greenfield development projects.Risk Communication: Liaise with the Chief Risk Officer at Brookfield to ensure alignment between trading strategies and risk management principlesCurve Maintenance and Valuation: Maintain accurate forward curves for commodities and assist in the valuation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to enhance financial analysis.Trading and Portfolio Management: Develop and execute trading strategies across various products, leveraging market analysis and risk management tools.Operational Engagement: Provide hands-on leadership in daily trading decisions and collaborate closely with asset operations teams.Team Development: Outline and execute plans for the expansion of the trading function, including budgeting, staffing, and skill development.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with regulatory, risk, asset management, and finance departments to integrate trading strategiesMarket Analysis and Optimization: Oversee the optimization of renewable asset portfolios and ensure strategic asset management within the market.
Requirements
Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field preferred.Minimum of 10 years of experience in energy markets, with a focus on renewable energy trading and portfolio management.Proven leadership skills and experience managing both strategic and operational aspects of trading functions.Strong analytical skills, proficiency in financial modeling, and trading software.Deep knowledge of PJM and MISO markets, regulatory environments, and the renewable energy landscape.Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, capable of engaging with senior management, external partners, and regulatory agencies.
