What Will You Do?
As a Clinical Staff Educator at Pine Rest, youβll be part of tight-knit team that believes in the healing power of your expertise and compassion. The Clinical Staff Educator is responsible for assessing the educational needs of the staff and directing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities. This position also acts as a consultant to and support for the nursing management team in the areas of professional practice and delivery of care. The Clinical Staff Educator is dedicated to excellent customer service, enthusiastic about the care we offer, and foster a sense of belonging and empowerment in a diverse workplace.
Area of Special Focus
In addition to the Clinical Staff Educator Position Summary, this position will include an area of special focus in quality and risk. This area of focus will require the individual to collect data for process improvement initiatives, reviewing and updating education to align with regulatory agencies, maintain knowledge of current issues in quality, and complete additional projects as assigned in collaboration with our Quality, Risk, and Clinical Operations teams.
The person in this role will specialize in regulated compliance and associated workflows. Assist in identifying root causes and assure plans and standards are in place. This includes development, education and implementation of related procedures and policies in the clinical environment. Maintain thorough knowledge of compliance and/or accreditation policies, procedures, issues, and trends.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Designs and revises educational activities to facilitate behavior change.Integrates cultural competence into learning activities.Facilitates the application of appropriate theories of nursing and other sciences including the dissemination of current information and theories necessary to improve quality patient care.Works in conjunction with unit preceptors and unit manager to develop a competency-based orientation individualized to new hires assigned to unit(s)/department(s).Maintains a flexible schedule to meet learning needs of staff on all shifts, which may include weekends.Monitors safety practices and recognizes trends in conjunction with manager to promote patient safety.Serves as coach or mentor for less experienced staff/colleagues.Serves on key committees/workgroups to identify educational needs of nursing staff and other clinical team support roles.Proficiently utilizes a variety of educational approaches including but not limited to one-on-one instruction, group classes, train-the βtrainer, and audio-visual presentations.Educate staff to be unit trainers for new equipment, policies and procedures and provide framework for training/education.Provides assistance to learners in identification of learning needs including cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.Responds to the following Pine Rest codes: Code Green, Blue & Pink when called and/or in the immediate area.Perform cyclical reviews of curricula and learning content.

Analyze and monitors data for trendsContinuous use of critical thinking skills and creativity to foster process improvements.Active membership to assigned committeesParticipation in quality improvement projectsEnsures the accuracy and completeness of the data collected and utilized for educational purposesMay work closely with vendor(s) for successful abstraction and reporting measuresMay request data that is reported to regulatory bodies as required/neededMaintain organizational knowledge of current rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.Completes research for content development via data extraction from a myriad of locations including but not limited to chart audits, incident report forms, recipient rights complaints/investigations, regulatory agency requirements and changesCriticizes and completes updates to course design ensuring that all designs and revisions of education activities facilitate behavior change.May be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance within the education that is delivered throughout Hospital and Residential Services; including but not limited to, accreditation and licensingMaintains database(s) with required registration and documentation as defined by departmental standard operating procedures.Performs other duties or functions as assigned
What Does This Role Require?
Education/Experience
Hold an active license to practice nursing in the state of Michigan and maintain continuing education units per state licensure requirements BSN or BS/BS requiredMinimum of 4 years nursing clinical experience required, in behavioral health preferred.Minimum of two years teaching experience required.Experience as a nursing preceptor or in nursing/patient education required.Certification by a nationally recognized nursing organization in staff development and/or an appropriate specialty area. Membership in an appropriate professional nursing organization preferred.Intermediate experience with computer technology: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams; E-mail platforms and Internet, required.Must have or get within 6 months of hire national certification to be a trainer for non-violent crisis intervention, American Heart Association BLS CPR certified trainer.
Additional Education, Training, and Experience for the Special Focus Area:
Analytical/problem solving skills (Required).Mastery experience with computer technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Internet, Video based platforms such as Microsoft Teams) (Required)Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills (Required).Knowledge of legislative/oversight bodies (e.g., TJC, CMS, CLIA, CMH, CARF) preferred.Must have or get within 6 months of hire a national certification to be a trainer for Pine Rest Non-violent Crisis management system.
