The Opportunity Join our trailblazing global AI and Data Intelligence team as a Software Engineer specializing in Data Engineering. You'll be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge data and AI technologies to support our life sciences investment arm. Your work will be instrumental in crafting a 'smart investment system' powered by data-driven insights for venture capital in the life sciences sector. You'll collaborate closely with investors and scientists to build sophisticated technical products and tools, offering predictions and intelligence from diverse, expanding datasets.
Your Role and Responsibilities Product Development: Create technical and scientific products that leverage data to drive intelligent decision-making in life sciences investment. Data Engineering: Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines, ensuring seamless data ingestion, cleaning, normalization, and transformation. Algorithm Development: Work in tandem with investment experts and scientists to develop proprietary algorithms for data processing, entity resolution, ranking, and recommendation systems. Collaboration: Partner with data scientists and machine learning engineers for feature extraction, engineering, and ML model deployment. Software Design: Architect and implement robust, scalable software infrastructure and microservices. Testing and Documentation: Conduct comprehensive automated testing and create detailed documentation for software and data processes. Visualization and Reporting: Develop dashboards for data visualization, monitor KPIs, and assess system performance.
Qualifications and Skills Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Experience: 5+ years in Software Engineering with a focus on Data Engineering. Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Python; familiarity with JavaScript and Java is beneficial. Proficient in SQL (Postgres, Presto/Trino dialects), ETL workflows, and workflow orchestration systems (e.g. Airflow, Prefect). Knowledge of modern data file formats (e.g. Parquet, Avro, ORC) and Python data tools (e.g. pandas, Dask, Ray). Cloud and Data Solutions: Experience in building cloud-based Data Warehouse/Data Lake solutions (AWS Athena, Redshift, Snowflake) and familiarity with AWS cloud services and infrastructure-as-code tools (CDK, Terraform). Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, fluent in English. Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the US.
Work Schedule Hybrid work schedule: Minimum 3 days per week in the San Francisco office (M/W/Th), with the option to work remotely 2 days per week.
Salary Range: $165,000-$206,000 base depending on experience
Bonus: Up to 20% annual performance bonus
