Job Summary

The Director of Strategic Materials Management is a subject matter expert who partners closely with plant, strategic sourcing, central planning, and supply planning leadership across Off Road to develop and manage the Materials Management capabilities and performance, including organization, policies, and processes to ensure the best possible utilization of production/materials management resources and optimized inventory levels.

Responsibilities

Own the following key performance indicators related to Materials Management:Inventory Accuracy for Raw, WIP, and Finished Goods within the manufacturing site’s scope: inbound warehouse locations, factory warehouse locations, line-side locations, back shop locations, post manufacturing warehouse, others where used. Target: 99.5%VV inventory locations: action and resolve within 5 business days of material being put into VV location, eventually 2 business days.Schedule Attainment: >98%.Clean build, less than 2% impact due to missing materials.Downtime due to material shortages, metric to be defined.Logistics (warehouse, shuttle/transportation) cost due to materials storage/movements, metric to be defined.Lead transformation project to define and implement best in class materials management systems/processes, production planning, material flow, inventory management, warehouse management, and MRP across the global Off Road manufacturing plant network, including but not limited to standard work, WMS rollout and IT integration. Incorporating policies, processes, and work instructions, and integrating with other functions to ensure GBU-wide solutions.Collaborate across work streams to align processes, identify dependencies, and establish governance controls and metrics that will enable and sustain best in class materials management processes. Critical partners include Manufacturing, Sales and Operations Planning, Central Planning, Production Planning, Finance, Strategic Sourcing and Central Operations.Identify gaps in IT systems/processes such as, Inventory Optimization, Production Planning, warehouse management system, inventory recording and reporting, shop floor records and recommend /implement solutions to solve business issues. Act as subject matter expert and internal partner to plant leadership teams to improve materials management; heavy travel to plant locations to work with teams on site.Supply the vision and guidance to implement pull systems throughout manufacturing and with our supplier base.Support inventory improvement projects and cost reduction.Develop and conduct appropriate education and training to ensure capability and process discipline. Develop ways to monitor process disciplineOwn success of project plans, ensuring progress on not only deadlines but quality of deliverables. Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills

8-12 years previous manufacturing, materials management, supply chain experience.Experience with Toyota Production System and lean manufacturing processes.Strong project planning and management skills, using standard project management tools.Understands financial systems & controls, including ability to analyze budget & cost data, determine trends & apply corrective actions to achieve desired financial goals.Experience building cross-functional relationships with peers and superiors in manufacturing plants and in headquarters functions.Proven ability to effectively meet deadlines and milestones, proactively identify issues/mitigations as well as effectively communicate status updates.Critical Thinker with ability to think through process solutions while balancing current capabilities with the ability to analyze for potential future issues.Demonstrated problem solver and strong initiative skills.Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and influence to drive results at all levels in a matrixed organization.Strong analytical skills and insights building.Excellent communication skills: ability to manage at all levels of the organization, from shop floor to high level leadership; ability to use the right combination of discretion, judgement, and tact to get teams to move forward.Ability to develop appropriate education and training vehicles and effectively execute, including but not limited to, classroom training, 1x1 coaching/mentoring.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain or relevant field required, Master’s preferred
