Deli managers are expected to be an example of excellence for all peers. Deli managers take full responsibility for daily and weekly deli operations and must display the capacity to maintain and enforce the company standards that have been set in place. The deli manager will schedule their team, order fresh products, and develop a daily agenda to ensure success throughout the business day.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Inventory ManagementOrdering Products and staying in stock on key itemsChecking expiration dates to ensure we’re selling everything we order.Rotating products in the back room and on the sales floor. Must enforce the “first in first out” philosophy.Building and maintaining impactful displays.Enforce credit policies with vendors.Product OrderingMust be able to order through an Excel order guide, as well as in person with sales representatives who come into the store.Checking weekly sale items in advance to maintain appropriate stock levels when sales begin and end.Planning ahead and ordering sufficient products for displays that drive additional sales.SchedulingDeli manager is responsible for creating a weekly schedule for the department that meets the weekly budget requirements of the business.Ensure all days are properly and appropriately staffed.Communicate with deli employees and make sure we’re staffing based on their availability.Must establish and enforce and “Time-Off” program that the employees follow.ReportingReporting daily operations to the store manager on duty.Communicating with the corporate merchandisers regarding credits, product availability, and otherSanitation and CleanlinessEnforces a clean and fresh work environment for customers and employees.Countertops/Machines/Deli Scales sanitized at least once per hour.Back Rooms and Coolers swept and mopped routinely.Customer ServiceProviding exceptional customer service is what sets us apart from the competition. The deli manager should be the leader and the example, setting the tone for excellence early and often.Listen to the needs of the customers and report any items or questions to store management or the merchandising team.Angelo Caputo used to say, “Smiles are Free” and this is a quote we live by daily. Being friendly and welcoming customers into the store is a great way to keep them coming back week after week.
DAILY OPERATIONS:Filling and cleaning the Olive BarManaging a daily break and lunch schedule.Refilling and refreshing salad bowls behind the service counter.Packaging and preparing salads for our self-service case.Fill and maintain the deli grab-and-go cooler. This normally requires the daily operation of an automatic deli slicer.Making sub sandwiches (3 ft/2 ft/ 12 in.)Stocking Shelves.Checking expiration dates.Verify all items have a shelf tag.Verify all items scan and are the correct price.Hang sale signs and tags.Cutting and wrapping whole wheels of specialty cheeses.Enforce company regulations and policies.Suggestive Selling.Daily meetings reviewing the agenda with the store management team.
QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum 2 years Deli Manager or Assistant Deli Manager experienceOther management experience would be considered.5-years of experience in the deli department specifically, but with no management experience, would also be considered following review.Ability to routinely lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights.Most items routinely dealt with are within 10 and 30 pounds.The heaviest items can be 65 pounds.No weight or workload limitations will qualify.Effective CommunicatorBe able to communicate information with employees and supervisors in a concise manner.Proficient use of Email and Cell PhoneProfessional AvailabilityDeli Managers are expected to be available to work on key days and times to meet the needs of the business.40–50-hour work weeks
Hourly Rate/Salary: $18-21.50/hour based on practical experience
