📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Pride Health is hiring a phlebotomist to support our client's healthcare organization in Newport News, VA. This is a 3-month assignment (possibility of extension or conversion).
Schedule: 1st shift 8 am-5 pm, M-FPay rate: $18 to $20/hr (Pay rate depends on experience, expertise, and education)
- Pay offered is based on experience, expertise, and education.
Responsibilities: Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to the required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the specimen's integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attending annual department training. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED 2-4 years of experience.
