The Prince George's County Government Department of the Environment is seeking qualified applicants to fill an Animal Care Attendant position, grade G-13, within its Kennel Unit.

About The Position

This is an entry-level animal attendant position that maintains and thoroughly cleans kennels, cages, and other common areas at the animal services facility using approved procedures and techniques, which would include but are not limited to: removing waste, power washing kennels, mopping/scrubbing and disinfecting areas where animals are kept, fed, watered and generally cared for. Prepares food, feeds, provides water, and sanitizes litter boxes and feeding equipment. Gathers and launders soiled pet bedding and replaces it with clean pet bedding. This position is considered essential personnel in accordance with DoE Instruction 110.4.

What You'll Do

House animals safely and humanely in order to protect the animals, self, and others. Examine animals to determine their sex, species, size, and age. Monitor animals for signs of illness, injuries, and unusual physical and behavioral conditions.Isolate animals as necessary. Perform initial health assessments of animals arriving at the facility and administers routine vaccinations. Assist veterinarians with wellness checks on animals. Socialize and exercises shelter animals on a daily basis.Perform other tasks and duties assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description; however, are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.

Applicant must posses a High School Diploma or G.E.D.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Upon Selection, The Candidate Must

Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties. Participate as an "Essential" employee in the department's snow and ice control program and other emergency or special activities as assigned.

Duration Of Eligibility

Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
