Metallurgist

BASIC FUNCTIONS: The role of a Technical Services Metallurgist is to develop, maintain and manage partnerships with the company's customers. This position will be based at the plant with up to 40% travel to visit customer’s facilities and training. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Having knowledge of the mill process and products to determine if capability matches customer’s requirements, and develop suitable products where necessary.Leading product performance investigations, determining root causes, and dispositioning technical claims.Understanding of service center processing and products.Communicating technical concepts in simple and relatable ways to foster understanding with both customers and our team.Collaborating with the sales team, product and process metallurgists to develop new grades/products or processes to support customers’ business and market needs.Collaborating with the customer to solve their steel related processing problems. Working with technical and commercial teammates from other divisions to support customers near or in targeted markets. Safety is the most important part of all jobs; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Engineering, or a similar technical field.At least two years of relevant industrial experience. PREFERENCES:Knowledge of hot rolled, pickled and galvanized / galvannealed productsTraining in conducting root cause analysis and facilitating problem solving initiativesFamiliarity with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologyFamiliarity with IATF16949 or ISO 9001 and 8D Corrective Action requirements
