Summary

Is responsible for generating production schedules, generating production and purchase orders to support production, expediting internal and external suppliers, generating savings for direct and indirect spend in line with departmental objectives, participate in ABS/lean initiatives as required.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Responsible for purchasing and negotiations of materials to support direct and indirect material spend requirementsDevelop current supply base to improve cost, delivery, and qualityDrives sourcing initiative in new design process, ensure compliance with engineering specifications. Open order tracking and expediting with internal production and suppliers for assigned products. Inform others of updated status and delivery informationKeeps abreast of market conditions, commodity pricing, product developments, and seek potential new sources of supply. Maintains accurate production schedules and supplier information in computer systemIdentifies cost savings opportunities for assigned productsSubstitutes for the other buyer/planners and participate in lean/ABS activities for the department as required. Other duties as assigned.

Critical Competencies

PC LiterateOperating knowledge of ERP systemsSAP preferredMS Office Excel and/or Access preferredClear oral and written communication.

Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or minimum five years of directly related experience as a buyer or combination of education, training or experience to provide the level of knowledge and skill requirement.

The work environment is mostly in an office setting; however, some time could be spent in the receiving, warehouse, production or quality area on a specific problem.
