The Manufacturing Technology and Engineering group is comprised of professionals who provide Technical, Business, Customer, and Financial support to the Global Rolled Products and Extrusions business units. The staff includes specialists in various technologies and engineering disciplines, with expertise spanning from melting metal to final fabrication.

The Finishing Technologist serves as the corporate expert on Leveling and Slitting, responsible for developing and deploying Web Handling Best Practices, solving problems with a global systemic and plant-specific focus, driving process efficiencies to lower costs and improve quality, training operators and other technologists, and implementing new technologies. This position reports to the Thermal and Finishing Process Manager.

While the group's primary location is 20 miles outside of Knoxville, TN, applicants may also choose to be based in Lancaster, PA, or Davenport, IA.

Primary Responsibilities: Finishing Process Engineer

Optimize process equipment to improve quality and capacity Solve equipment and process problems for Finishing processes Drive resolution of chronic problems within the area of expertise; Lead problem-solving teams & organize support from other resources when necessary Develop and deploy best practices for the different Finishing processes, assist in identifying improvement opportunities, and facilitate technology transfer Maintain a working relationship with vendors of Finishing equipment and stay knowledgeable of external developments Provide engineering and operational support for large capital improvement projects Sponsor, participate, and occasionally lead development projects Be relied upon by plant resources for advice and direction on capital and process solutions Participate in technical assessments of facilities and individual pieces of equipment Provide equipment, control, and process training to the technical base

Basic Qualifications: Finishing Process Engineer

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution 7 total years of manufacturing experience, with a minimum of 4 years in aluminum finishing Legal authorization to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire Ability to navigate Rockwell PLCs for troubleshooting Ability to work well with a broad group of cultures Self-starter with the ability to determine priorities based on specific business needs Strong leadership skills
