The Department

The Business of Art and Design Department at Ringling College integrates the disciplines of design and business management. The curriculum emphasizes entrepreneurial thinking, design research, production management, strategic planning, marketing, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Courses are designed to be practical and experiential, equipping students for success through real-world, client-driven projects that put theory into practice. Graduates of this program find success across industries as production coordinators, new product managers, marketing managers, brand strategists, and as creative entrepreneurs.

Ringling College is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time faculty member in the Business of Art and Design major to teach a variety of courses, such as: Design Thinking for Business, The Pitch, Brand Strategy, Marketing, and other business courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to use a range of creative, student-centered instructional strategies, including technological tools, to deliver course content and foster student learning. Remote teaching may be considered from the following states: Florida, Virginia, Connecticut, and South Carolina.

Ringling College has a supportive, collegial faculty, a curriculum that strongly values excellence, and a robust support system dedicated to using the most current technology. Ongoing commitment to creative work/scholarship in the profession is expected and active participation with faculty, department, and college service is required. Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position is teaching a variety of business classes within a structure of three courses or nine credits per semester. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 2024.

Minimum Qualifications

An advanced degree, preferably a Master’s degree in business, advertising, design, or related field from a regional or internationally accredited institution.A record of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: brand strategy, brand management, consumer/market research, marketing, media planning, copywriting, design research, design management.Knowledge of production workflow processes for various types of media in order to accurately scope projects and assess resource requirements.Proficiency with digital technology and current software products relevant to the area and courses.Ability to clearly communicate and deliver effective, engaging public speaking, presentations, and pitches.Willingness to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-disciplinary faculty, students, and administrators in an educational environment.Relevant professional industry and client experience.Broad familiarity with the varied disciplines of undergraduate instruction in art, design and business.

Preferred Qualifications

A terminal degree in business, design, or related field from a regionally accredited school.Two years of full-time college level teaching or the equivalent in part time teaching.Five years of significant and recent professional practice and work experience in the professional field of expertise.Experience leading a design or production department, managing a brand, or directing design research and/or product development programs.Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.Familiarity with digital technologies in teaching and effective use of technology in the classroom.Familiarity with project management tools commonly used in design and media production management.Ability to work well in non-traditional educational settings and to design innovative learning experiences.
