Grants Accountant

Religion News Foundation (RNF) is a 501c(3) organization. RNF is seeking a grants accountant with strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and nonprofit accounting practices. In the last five years RNF’s grants portfolio has grown from one main funder to over 15 distinct grants. This new team member will take the lead in building our grants accounting function and will contribute to all functions of our accounting department. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively. We are looking for someone who can innovate, will have excellent communication skills, and be willing to learn and grow with our organization.

Primary Duties:•Work collaboratively with finance team members and members of the development team to establish best practices for the financial management of grants, in alignment with the goals of the organization and the grantors, and in compliance with applicable regulations.•Perform all aspects of the organization’s grants accounting function.•Work collaboratively with program services team members to collect information needed for grants accounting.•Create and maintain process documentation for all accounting functions, including functions outside the position’s primary area of responsibility.•Prepare supporting documents in preparation for the annual audit and 990.•Become cross trained and serve as a back-up for other accounting functions as time allows.

Skills and Experience Required•Accounting degree from an accredited university•Minimum two years accounting experience•Strong knowledge of GAAP•CPA license preferred but not required•Ability to create workflow and process documentation•Experience in non-profit accounting•Experience in grants accounting preferred•Expertise in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Quickbooks Online (or other cloud accounting software)•Experience with divvy.com, bill.com, expensify, or other credit care spend management tools helpful but not required.•Familiarity with g-suite also helpful•Ability to work both independently and collaboratively•Preference will be given to those in the greater Columbia, Missouri area

Work Setting and HoursThis is a fully remote, part-time [15-25 hours per week] position. Availability must be during standard business hours in Central Time. Hours and schedule may be negotiated during hiring process.

CompensationThis W-2 employee position has a salary range of $30 to $52 per hour (DOE). Part-time employees are eligible for401k PlanPaid Vacation – 15 daysPaid Sick Leave – 9 days
