Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives.Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.

OPPORTUNITYThe Stabilization Advocate delivers services to guests within their own community and in their own homes, providing multiple resources to maintain stable housing and health by building long-term support and solutions. Many of our guests struggle with mental illness, physical disabilities, language, and other barriers that can jeopardize their living situations. Bill paying, housekeeping tasks or disputes with landlords and neighbors can overwhelm and ultimately sabotage a woman’s housing. The Stabilization Advocate establishes and maintains relationships with each guest, regularly checking in and developing a support system to address each guest’s particular needs. This is an on-site position based in Boston, MA. This position reports to the Director of Stabilization.

RESPONSIBILITIESMaintain a caseload of guests, providing services to guests in their home and accompanying them to court, medical, and housing appointmentsNegotiate and mediate with landlords, management companies, housing authorities, and lawyers on behalf of guestAssist guests with tenant/lease disputes, back rent and utility arrearage, rental calculations, yearly housing recertification and reporting of household income changes, and other issuesProvide guests with information and access to needed referrals, transportation, food pantries, DTA and other governmental offices and community resources to maintain their housing; Provide guests with information and referrals to services available on-site, by both Rosie’s Place programs and other allied partnersSupport guests by engaging in a variety of methods of cultivating relationships and building trustMaintain an up-to-date knowledge of community resources as well as current regulations and requirements for obtaining public benefits, housing, and other servicesMaintain detailed and accurate guest records on file or electronic databaseEnsure confidentiality when handling all aspects of guests’ informationPerform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Stabilization

WORK EXPECTATIONSWe are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Stabilization Advocate is expected to work onsite at Rosie’s Place during their work week (about 9am to 5pm) and engage regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers. This position will be required to work onsite in Boston, MA. While this position may eventually allow for some hours to be worked remotely, flexibility with days on-site is required to fulfill work obligations and to take part in organization meetings, trainings and events. The position requires travel to guest homes and community locations. For the first 90 days, all work will be done fully on-site.We continue to adapt to safety protocols related to COVID-19 as we understand them, and all employees must follow our safety protocols. Among these protocols, we require all employees to be up to date with their COVID vaccinations. Requests for medical or religious exemptions from the COVID vaccination are considered.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSThe starting salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $52,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience.In an effort to increase equity, and because we know that salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, we do not participate in salary negotiations outside of this stated starting salary range.Rosie’s Place offers a robust benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, pension contributions, paid vacation, and more.
