Cyber Security Internship

Overview

RTI International seeks a prospect for the Cyber Security Internship in Global Technology Solutions within the General & Administrative (G&A) unit.

This intern will work within the RTI Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (OCISO). This team is responsible for the security of all compute assets and data that support the business and our customers. The OCISO team contains both the security operations team that administer our cyber security tools and perform incident/event response activities and the Governance team that are responsible for maintaining compliance with industry best practices, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.

The goals of the OCISO team are to secure all data and technology used/processed by RTI. We do this using security tools that perform functions such as vulnerability management scans, antivirus protections, access controls, infrastructure monitoring and incident detection through the use of a Security information and event management (SIEM) system. We also evaluate risk and manage work to reduce the risk to RTI that may exist due to factors such as known vulnerabilities, poorly configured systems/controls, supply chain risk, etc.The intern with get exposed to both security operations and governance, risk and compliance aspects of cyber security.

Learning Objectives

The operations of a corporate cyber security team and the regulatory & compliance requirements that drive a standard set of security controls.Depending on the candidate's background they may get experience with certain security toolsets.

Responsibilities

Contributing to security operational activities and projects such as implementing new endpoint protections and cloud access security broker (CASB), zero trust, network and data segmentation, etc.Assisting with vulnerability management activities.Conducting continuous monitoring activities to assess the operating effectiveness of security controls, monitoring of user access, and policy compliance.Assisting with creating and assessing configuration baselines.Assisting with audits, questionnaires, and assessments.

Additional Information

This virtual paid internship will take place from May 2024 through August 2024. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

U.S. CitizenshipCurrent student with at least 2 years of college education in computer technology, cyber security or equivalent experienceBasic understanding of computing stack (network operations, operating systems, application security, & cloud computing)Basic understanding of secure coding best practices and has some coding experience (no particular coding language)

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of cyber risk, threats and vulnerabilities.Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and excel.Ability to listen and communicate well both verbally and in writing.Ability to work mostly independently given the proper guidance and requirements.Good critical thinking and problem solving and decision-making skills.
