Senior Data Analyst

Job Summary

The data analyst role at SAE is a hybrid role: part data analyst, part data scientist, part data warehouse engineer, and part backend engineer. This role will require an inquisitive and business-oriented mindset with the ability to implement rigorous database solutions and best practices in order to produce and influence the adoption of robust quality data insights to drive business decisions in all areas of SAE.

Essential Functions

Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more data sources andits related business subjectsCollaborate with other functions across the company by building reportsand dashboards with useful analysis and data insightsApprove data model changes as a data team reviewer and code owner for specific database and data model schemasExplain trends across data sources, potential opportunities for growth or improvement, and data caveats for descriptive, diagnostic, predictive (including forecasting), and prescriptive data analysisDeep understanding of how data is created and transformed through SAE products and services provided to help drive product designs or service usage or note impacts to data reporting capabilitiesDevelop new trusted data tests to expand test coverage for the enterprise data warehouseCraft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale database environment. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code reviewFollow and improve our processes and workflows for maintaining high quality data and reporting while implementing the DataOps philosophy in everything you doUnderstand the code base extremely well in order to conduct new data innovation and to spot inconsistencies and edge casesSolve technical problems of high scope and complexityExert influence on the long-range goals of your teamAdvocate for improvements to data quality, security, and query performance that have a particular impact across your team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME)Provide mentorship for Junior and Intermediate members of the team to help them grow in their responsibilitiesProvide expertise to all SAE teams through code reviews, pairing, and training to help deliver optimal queriesBuild close relationships with other functional teams to truly democratize data understanding and accessDeliver and explain data analytics methodologies and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members. Collaborate with the team on larger projectsUnderstand and document the full lifecycle of data in our data catalog so data can be efficiently integrated, modeled, and analyzedDocument every action in either issue/MR templates, the handbook, or READMEs so your learnings turn into repeatable actions and then into automation

Minimum Requirements

6+ years of experience in an analytics role or equivalent experience/trainingShare and work in accordance with our valuesPositive and solution-oriented mindsetClearly and concisely communicate complex business logic, technical requirements, and design recommendations through iterative solutionsExpert in SQL within analytical data warehouses such as Snowflake (preferred), Databricks, or Redshift and in business intelligence tools such as Power BI (preferred), or TableauAble to write complex SQL including multi-table joins, grouping and aggregation, common table expressions, and conditional filtersDemonstrable understanding of Gremlin/Cypher and graph databases such as Neo4j (preferred) or AWS NeptunePassionate about data, analytics and automation. Experience cleaning and modeling large quantities of raw, disorganized dataExperience working with a variety of complex data sources. Our data includes Salesforce, Marketo, NetSuite, and many othersEffective communication and collaboration skills, including clear status updatesComfort working in a highly agile, intensely iterative environmentSelf-motivated and self-managing, with strong organizational skillsHands on experience working with Python, API calls, and JSON, to generate business insights and drive better organizational decision makingDemonstrated analytical experience with one or more of the following business subject areas: marketing, finance, sales, product, customer success, customer support, engineering, or peopleDemonstrated ability to define, design, and develop key performance indicators related to one or more business subject areas
