Role DescriptionOur Department is seeking to hire a two full-time faculty instructors in Political Science and one full-time faculty instructor in Criminal Justice at San Antonio College. The faculty instructor will be responsible for day-to-day tasks such as teaching courses, developing curriculum, providing training and education to students, providing service to their program of study, the department and the college, and conducting scholarship/research and professional development to sustain current knowledge in their respective discipline. The role requires expertise in the respective fields of Criminal Justice and Political Science, as well as effective communication and instructional skills.
Qualifications for the Political Science Postings Minimum:Masters or higher degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Public Administration, or a similar field with evidence of studies in political institutions from an accredited institution or a Masters degree in any field with 18 hours in the political science discipline.Must submit a cover letter and unofficial transcripts demonstrating minimum education qualifications. Cover letter must address qualifications to teach discipline specific courses offered at San Antonio College.Must acknowledge that this is an in-person position, but be willing to teach in person, online, at night, on weekends, and off campus as required.Must reside in San Antonio or the greater Metropolitan San Antonio Area and be willing to commute to campus to teach in-person courses.Preferred:A commitment to excellence in teaching.A Ph.D. in one of the fields listed above in the minimum qualification section.Experience studying Texas Politics and American Politics at the graduate level, or teaching Texas or American Politics at the undergraduate level.Experience in Mexican American PoliticsA background in statistical analysis, or data analytics and familiarity with distance learning (CANVAS LMS, Zoom, or Teams).Practitioner experience in local, state, or federal government organizations and/ or agencies.Certificate in online teaching issued from an accredited institution of higher education. Qualifications for the Criminal Justice PostingMinimum:Masters degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Corrections, Justice Administration, Criminal Justice Data Analytics (CJDA), or a Juris Doctorate with a specialty in criminal law, or a Masters degree in another field with at least 18 hours post-graduate studies in the criminal justice discipline.Three (3) years of work experience in the criminal justice field.Must submit a cover letter and unofficial transcripts demonstrating minimum education qualification. Cover Letter must describe your professional experiences and courses you are qualified to teach.Willingness to teach in person, online, at night, and on weekends, as required.Willingness to be trained in online teaching certification, or able to present credentials demonstrating certification in online teaching.Willingness to meet with students outside of class by appointment to discuss courses.Must reside in San Antonio or the greater Metropolitan San Antonio Area and be willing to commute to campus to teach in-person courses.
Pre A commitment to excellence in teaching.Ph.D. in any of the sub-disciplines of Criminal Justice listed above, with a minimum of three (3) years of work experience in the criminal justice field.Experience as a college instructor and a commitment to excellence in teaching.A background in statistical analysis, data analytics, or project management.Experience working with Criminal Justice data analytics on crime prediction, prevention, and/or parole/probation risk analysis, or certificate in data analytics with a focus on criminal justice.Experience with or willingness to teach hybrid, online asynchronous, remote synchronous, or Hy-flex (i.e. face-to-face, online asynchronous, and remote synchronous simultaneously).Certificate in online teaching issued from an accredited institution of higher education.
