Merchandising Assistant

About The Role

The Merchandise Accounting Assistant has primary responsibility for maintaining accounts payable and receivable while following company and division policies and procedures. This position’s duties include processing of settlements, freight and miscellaneous payables, accounts receivable, and maintaining accurate inventory records. Ultimately, a successful Merchandise Accounting Assistant will ensure duties are completed accurately, effectively, and in a timely manner; have a proven ability to continuously learn, problem solve, and implement improvements, and enjoy working with others in a collaborative manner.

The person in this role must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, be detail oriented with a high level of accuracy, adaptive, professional, be reliable, and be able to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment. This person will develop a basic understanding of our business to identify potential issues or opportunities and provide useful feedback to management.

Review reports including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Freight Analysis and other miscellaneous reports on a daily/weekly basis and identify actionable items and resolveMaintains an organized digital filing system meeting our record retention policy which includes invoices, contracts, reports and payment receiptsOther specific duties as assigned to support Accounting Department, ensuring proper separation of duties within the accounting teamPartnering with the Trade Execution team to process settlements for payment in a timely mannerReviewing the accuracy and completeness of shipment informationCompleting any prepayments that are required by Trade Execution teamPartnering with Trade Execution team to process invoices for truck and ocean freight invoices in a timely mannerCoding invoices accurately into the system in a timely mannerEnsuring all invoices receive proper approvalProcessing payments and resolving any issues that occur during the processProcessing of settlements and creating accurate and timely invoices for customersPartnering with the Sales team to apply all cash receipts to invoices in a timely mannerCreating debit/credit memos

About You

High school diploma or GEDDetail-orientedStrong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasksStrong mathematical and analytical abilityCustomer-centric, self-motivated problem solverProficiency in MS Office

Preferred

2-4 years experience in accounting or related fieldIntermediate understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable principles and proceduresExperience with supplier accounts and reconciliationsExperience with customer accountsUnderstanding of cash flow
