Director of Fundraising (Finance Director)

Sheryl Johnson, the Democratic Candidate for South Dakota’s lone seat in the House of Representatives, is hiring a Finance Director. The Finance Director will design and implement the campaign’s finance plan for the 2024 campaign cycle, will oversee all fundraising activities for the campaign, will assist the candidates and staff/volunteers on fundraising best practices, and will be the primary point of contact on all things related to fundraising during the campaign. The Finance Director reports directly to the Campaign Manager.

The following job responsibilities are designed to provide an overview of the major duties and responsibilities of this position but are not exhaustive. Job Responsibilities:Developing and executing the fundraising plan for the campaign in concert with the Campaign Manager and candidate;Researching potential donors and assessing giving potential;Planning and managing call time;Planning and successfully executing targeted fundraising campaigns, including email, text, social media, and direct mail;Developing a plan to cultivate and grow donations from the existing database;Developing and maintaining systems for prospecting, donor tracking, and reporting to donors;Working with the candidate and staff to set fundraising goals, train in fundraising skills, track/report on success, and build strong finance operations that support the campaign budget.

Qualifications:One to two cycles of experience in political fundraising and campaigns, with a strong track record of success. Knowledge of NGP-VAN or other CRM tools and campaign finance is a plus;Excellent verbal and written communication skills;Strong understanding of Excel/Google Sheets and capable of effectively organizing and managing fundraising data;Detail-oriented with excellent time management, planning, and organization skills;Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and a willingness to hold self and others accountable to goals;Aptitude for projecting revenue and managing budgets;Team player with a positive attitude that is able to motivate others;Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including frequent evening and weekend work and the ability to travel statewide. Location: Sioux Falls, SD with time spent working from home and in the campaign office. There is no reimbursement for relocation expenses.

Compensation and benefits: $4,500 - $6,000/mo, commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus bonus based on reaching set goals. This is a temporary position that will last through the November 2024 general election.
