Application Engineer

Sierra Executive Solutions, Inc. (SES) is a 3rd party search firm recruiting for a lithium battery manufacturing/distribution client company's Application Engineer.

SUMMARY:An application engineer is primarily responsible for supporting the commercial team in the selection of the most appropriate product for the intended application or developing a new product specification, for supporting the supply organization in the evaluation of new suppliers and new products, the marketing organization by evaluating the performance of the competitors’ products and the quality team through the monitoring of incoming quality inspections and the disposition of field quality issues. An application engineer must also act as the resident technical expert advisor for our products, supports marketing in the creation of blogs and creating white papers. Lastly, the application engineer needs to be knowledgeable in approvals (UL, CSA, Cenelec, CE, etc.) and compliance (RoHS, Prop 65) and to act as the liaison between company's customers and vendors to meet customer needs. To be successful in this role an application engineer must have technical expertise in lithium batteries of several chemistries and digital printed circuit design, strong communication and technical writing ability, and strong project management skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintain an expert level of product and application knowledge, with an ability to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users.Support the commercial organization in defining application requirements and in selecting the most appropriate technology for the application. Selecting the appropriate technology can include battery chemistry, battery management system design and communication protocols.Identify the necessary approval and compliance requirements for new product development and maintain approval and compliance documentation.Supports all organizations by utilizing project management techniques to identify implementation tasks and managing the completion of all tasks until the assigned project is completed.Supports customer service by providing technical training for the most frequently asked questions and providing answers to more difficult application questions.Support the marketing organization in the identifying new product technologies to meet emerging customer requirements and assists the supply organization with the technical evaluation and selection of the appropriate supplier.Support the quality organization through evaluation of field failures and product evaluation testing.Define and maintain the engineering test facility through the specification of test equipment and developing/maintaining engineering test procedures.Support marketing through the development of theory of operation training, application-based training and other appropriate training.Support marketing in the identification and evaluation of competitive products.Supports all ISO processes within area of responsibility and leads process improvement efforts.The hiring company is a fast-paced organization with a potential for rapid growth requiring many other duties than the ones stated on the job description

QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required; advanced degree preferred in areas of electrical, chemical or chemical engineering preferred.EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years of engineering experience. Suitable design experience may include printed circuit board design, communication protocols such as CanBus, and experience with lithium batteries with different chemistries or energy storage systems. Process experience in new product implementation, engineering test and project management experience are desired.SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: Hands on experience in the design of systems utilizing sealed lead acid and lithium batteries as a source of power, battery management systems for protection and communication protocol for monitoring or control. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, word and Outlook) with demonstrated knowledge of data/engineering analysis and proficient with the power query editor, knowledge of visual basic programing also a plus. Experience in failure mode analysis, design of experiment and other engineering analytical tools are preferred. Highly effective communication skills (oral and written) with experience in writing professional white papers.CERTIFICATIONS: None required
