The Product Designer is responsible for developing modern and innovative UX designs aimed at enabling customers to best leverage Skillable products in ways that result in better overall customer satisfaction and increased usage. Serve as a valued partner and ensure strong communications with customers, users, and internal team members to create design and conduct UX research that serve all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Engage with customers and team members to better understand the challenges, wants, and needs of each Persona in terms of overall product/platform User Experience. Act as the lead in collaboration with Product Team, and Developers on functional UX Research. Create human-centered designs and intuitive, functional, user interfaces while placing heavy value on patterns and reusable components. Partner with Developers and Product Managers on design system management within Figma. Create and maintain usability documentation. Proactively consider accessibility standards in every UX design. Invest time researching emerging patterns and Best Practices for UX Design. Assist process of scaling UX design and transitioning Skillable’s product and engineering processes to a “UX Design first” methodology, driven by comprehensive mockups, prototyping, and collaborative design. Work with the team to establish the most effective and efficient rhythm of product and UX design communication and follow-up with team members and customers. Proactively identify, document, and share recommendations for platform improvements; collaborate with Engineering and Product team members to understand and help shape the roadmap. Work with marketing to support in-product messaging and branding. Assist product managers and engineering leads with scope and estimation for proposed solutions leading to accurate cost and timeline estimates. Participate in Scrum ceremonies for development teams, clarifying requirements, listening, and weighing alternative suggestions, and leading pivot opportunities. Engage with content services and operations to customize user interfaces to meet customer needs. Identify similarities in customer requests for growth areas to platform native customization support. Support and promote the company values through positive interactions with internal and external partners and customers regularly. Other strategic business initiatives or cross-functional project involvement as required.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience. 5-8+ years working with customers to understand their challenges, and collaborating with architects, developers, database admins, and related peer groups to create and iterate on user experience designs. 5+ years designing and building interactive prototypes and mockups 3+ years creating component-based design systems for libraries 5+ years directly engaging with customers/users performing UX research as needed Create and transpose sketches, wireframes, mock-ups with a working knowledge of the underlying code. Experience and understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS), content creation, and/or content delivery systems highly desired. Ability and willingness to participate in multiple technical projects concurrently. Desire and ability to work at a fast pace. Strong attention to detail. Able to think independently to resolve complex system issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range

The base salary for this position is $101,000 - $152,000 annually. Consistent with applicable laws, compensation will be determined based on the candidate's level, relevant skills, qualifications, and experience along with requirements for the position and annual financial plans.

Skillable is a distributed first team with employees working across the U.S., and we do not consider geography when determining compensation ranges.

Please note that it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range. Skillable reserves the right to modify this compensation range at any time.

Working Conditions

The job conditions for this position are in a remote home office setting, requiring a space that supports privacy and focus to attend to regular and frequent video and voice calls. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Periodic travel may be required equaling up to approximately 10% of the time.
