The Role

As a Machine Learning Intern at SoFi, you will be pivotal in pioneering sophisticated algorithms and models at the cutting edge of Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Reinforcement Learning (RL). Your role will focus on tackling complex, innovative research problems and translating these into scalable solutions that will directly enhance our user's financial journey within the SoFi ecosystem.

What You’ll Do

Develop and implement scalable, cutting-edge machine learning algorithms and models, integrating NLP and RL to address core business challenges.Construct and refine a simulation environment where RL agents can be trained and evaluated, aimed at optimizing user interactions and financial decisions. Create personalized and dynamic user experiences by leveraging machine learning to tailor financial advice and solutions. Work closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, product managers, and software engineers to integrate machine learning solutions into SoFi’s products effectively. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of implemented machine learning solutions, iterating and improving upon them based on performance data collected at scale. Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in machine learning, NLP, and RL, and assess their potential applicability to ongoing projects or future initiatives.

What You’ll Need

Enrolled in an accredited US-based university with an expected graduation date of Spring 2025 Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative fieldMust be a US CitizenMust be returning to school for at least one quarter or semester after the internshipHave no more than 12 months of professional full-time work experience (excluding internships and research assistant roles)Must be willing to relocate to San Francisco Bay Area and be available to work in the San Francisco HQ officeMust be attending a US-based university for positions in the USBasic knowledge of Reinforcement learning and Markov decision processesAbility to work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, with a strong attention to detailStrong communication skills and a sense of ownership & responsibility

Nice To Have

Experience in Deep Learning and Large Language ModelsPublication(s) at peer-reviewed conferences or journals Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to clearly communicate ideas in both verbal and written formats
