Sonora School of Sewing & Apparel Construction is in the 13th year of providing instruction to the community. Founded in 2011, the school practices traditional bespoke tailoring, apparel and accessory construction. Honoring the art of sewing excellence, craftsmanship, fashion and design. Sonora School of Sewing & Apparel Construction is a growing business that offers classes to students of all ages and skill levels and provides garment manufacturing services.

Our ideal candidate would have strong attention to detail, be highly efficient, have extensive knowledge of garment and sewn product construction, and work seamlessly with our team. We are seeking a candidate that can meet deadlines by working with our team to ensure products are made correctly and meet quality standards. A candidate that has a wide scope of knowledge including, but not limited to: garment and product construction, and operating industrial sewing and cutting machines.

Job Description:The production seamstress/stitcher provides a key role in our production facility. They provide exceptional workmanship, precision, and efficiency to fulfill the evolving needs of client products. They will assist in meeting deadlines by working with our team to ensure products are made efficiently, correctly and meet quality standards.The seamstress/stitcher will provide expansive workmanship, reliability and flexibility to assist with various tasks to fulfill orders, such as cutting, sewing, packaging, processing, and shop maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESOperate industrial sewing machines including single needle, overlock and coverstitch machines to fulfill production order requests.Assist with sample making and product development.Meet deadlines by working with our team to ensure products are made correctly and meet quality standards.Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately read and follow tech packs to ensure the quality and accuracy of all finished products.Ability to take direction well and follow through with little or no supervision.Effectively manage workload and complete all required items in a timely manner.Flexibility to assist with various tasks to fulfill orders, such as cutting, packaging, folding and processing.Ability to support other areas in the department on an as needed basis, such as:shop maintenance. Skills:Outstanding conflict resolution skills.Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills.Excellent customer service skills.Excellent sewn construction skills.Preferred cutting, pattern making, grading and draping skills. Abilities:Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.Ability to develop and complete projects without continued direct supervision.Ability to maintain a calm demeanor whilst under stressful situations.Ability to work efficiently and cohesively with a team.Ability to meet minimum physical requirements to include frequently lifting and moving 30 pounds (or more), frequent sitting, standing, bending, crouching, lifting, twisting, and grasping.Education and Experience:Preferred 2+ years of experience working in a sewn product manufacturing facilityPreferred 2+ years of experience in production sewingPreferred 2+ years of experience in production cutting Preferred 2+ years of experience in the fashion industry (sewing, design, pattern drafting).Hours:Hours are set on an as and when needed basis that are dependent on client orders. We are currently projecting 40 hours a week through July 1st, with the possibility of future work thereafter (0-40 hours per week) depending on project needs. Hours may occasionally extend to evening and weekend classes.Additional hours may include: pattern making, grading and prototype development.This position may also extend to in-house product development and aiding in junior and youth classes.Wage: $16.00-$19.00 per hour. Wages are based on experience.Requirements:A negative TB test Background clearance at both State and Federal levels are required for this position.
