📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Job Summary
This position focuses on providing budget planning, forecasting and analysis for Southern Company Gas. This role primarily supports the EVP and Chief Operating Officer area including but not limited to, Compliance and Technical Service, Operations Support and Gas Operations. This position requires strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to work closely with business unit leaders to analyze and assess potential financial risks and opportunities.

The position may be filled at the Financial Analyst II (Level 3). Financial Analyst III (Level 4) or Financial Analyst, Senior (Level 5). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education and certifications may be eligible for the advanced grade.
Functional Expertise
Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities by Competency
Provide monthly variance reporting, trending, projections, presentations, and ad-hoc analysis to support FP&A leadership and the business leaders of the supported organizationsParticipate in the monthly close process including preparation of accruals, journal entries, reconciliations and other normal closing responsibilities as neededServe as the financial lead for the business as related to the annual budget process, quarterly forecasts, and periodic internal reporting for the organizationWork closely with business area leaders to achieve desired financial and operational resultsAssess financial performance against target, including risks and opportunities to the planPerforms financial and ad-hoc analysis as requested including monitoring full income statement including margin, operating expenses, other income and net incomeWorks with business and FP&A leadership to evaluate and manage requests for additional funding throughout the fiscal year

Education, Certifications/Licenses
Required
BS/BA degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or other requiring application of analytical techniques
Preferred
MBA or CPA/CFAEnergy company experience

Financial Analyst II
2-4 years experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Financial Analyst III
4-6 years experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Senior Financial Analyst
7+ years experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fieldsExperience working with senior executives individual and team basis
Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
