Internship Application

START’s Internship Program is designed to ensure that every internship experience is filled with rewarding learning and preparation for career objectives. An intern within START will have the opportunity to learn about the many issues within the organization ranging from addiction to mental illness to adolescents services, clinical to non-clinical engagement methods and finally from program development to operational implementation. These experiences will involve challenges during the internship period that interns will learn how to overcome in order to continue on their perspective career tracks. In addition, interns will also learn about the many resources available to enhance their skills sets to address patient care, program services and regulatory compliance protocols.

Clinical Internships: Interns who wish to participate in the clinical aspect are interns whose project plan involves pursing degrees in Public Health, Social Work, Human Services or Substance Abuse Services field (i.e. Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Clinical Social Workers, Vocational or Substance Abuse fields). Interns can be placed within administrative offices or within clinical settings and preceptor in the related field. This may also include engaging patients, experience learning of program or service development and treatment plan development.

Non-Clinical Internships: Interns who wish to participate in the non-clinical aspect are interns whose project plans or learning experience would involves students pursing degrees in Public Administration, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, Operations, Buildings and Facilities, Information and Technology, and Finance.

Each internship experience is unique to the intern and depends on the design between the preceptor and the referring college program requirements. START also offers not-for-credit internships – however the college/university must still approve the internship to ensure a meaningful experience. Meaningful experiences provide genuine opportunities for students to learn about their desired career path outside of a classroom environment.
