About Us

The State Medical Board of Ohio issues licenses and oversees the practice of allopathic physicians (MD), osteopathic physicians (DO), podiatric physicians (DPM), massage therapists (LMT), and various other allied health care professionals under the authority of the Medical Practices Act, Chapter 4731, Ohio Revised Code (ORC). The Medical Board continues to regulate naprapaths and mechanotherapists licensed by the Board before March 1992.

The Medical Board also regulates Physician Assistants, ORC Chapter 4730, Dietitians, ORC Chapter 4759, Anesthesiologist Assistants, ORC Chapter 4760, Respiratory Care Professionals, ORC Chapter 4761, Acupuncture, ORC Chapter 4762, ORC, Radiologist Assistants, ORC Chapter 4774, and Genetic Counselors, ORC Chapter 4778.

The Medical Board’s regulatory responsibilities include investigating complaints against applicants and licensees and taking disciplinary action against those who violate the public health and safety standards set by the General Assembly and the Medical Board.

What You'll Do

The State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) is looking for a detailed, self-motivated Desk Investigator to assist with our Investigations team. This position will independently conduct investigations, coordinate with external agencies and respond to various inquiries and requests from internal/external customers.

The Duties Include, But Not Limited To The Following

Independently conducts desk investigations of complaints & allegations for the State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) (e.g., investigates claims of unethical &/or illegal behavior of licensees (i.e., unprofessional conduct));Responsible for Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) Coordination requests;Handles law enforcement coordination for Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG) & Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS); responsible for orientation & onboarding of investigators;Responsible for court document retrieval: retrieve documents from federal, state & local courts for various internal staff; track document requests;Acts as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Liaison;Responds to inquiries, requests for information &/or complaints that require in-depth knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies & procedures as they pertain in given situations (i.e., from consumers, hospitals, professional associations, insurance carriers, government agencies & officials & general public regarding specific board disciplinary actions & about board investigatory or disciplinary processes & procedures & independently determines appropriate actions for resolutions.

This position will work in the Central Office downtown location Monday - Friday.

Pay Rates: Unless required by legislation or union contract, candidates can expect to be paid at the lowest rate in the salary range (Step 1).

Training and Development Required to Remain in the Classification after Employment: Must complete all agency required safety training.

Completion of associate core program in law enforcement, criminal justice or in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file; 12 mos. exp. conducting investigations &/or inspections; valid driver's license.
