The BMV team works throughout the state of Indiana and is dedicated to fostering an environment where we: - Invest in our employees- Engage our customers- Provide sustainable systems- Embrace product innovation Role Overview: As the Administrative Hearings Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the Administrative Hearings Attorney to ensure that the BMV’s administrative hearings process functions well. Administrative hearings take two main forms at BMV, Material Error Review and Appeals through the Office of Administrative Law Proceedings (OALP). This position will provide the main support for the BMV’s OALP procedures. This position will work with other members of the legal team to conduct Material Error Reviews. You will report to the Deputy General Counsel and work closely with attorneys and non-attorney staff within the Legal Department. Experience as a paralegal is preferred.

Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00. A Day in the Life:Provide support to the Administrative Hearings attorney.Create BMV files for all cases, ensuring that all relevant documents are in the legal file.Coordinate with OALP on intake of new cases. This includes assisting customers who are seeking an appeal to deliver paperwork to OALP.Ensure that the BMV’s hearing calendar remains current and up to date.Track OALP cases within BMV’s database / case management system (HIGHQ).Prepare exhibits for administrative hearings.Coordinate with witnesses for administrative hearings.Take appropriate follow up within BMV upon resolution of OALP cases.Prepare the agency record as necessary upon petitions for judicial review of OALP decisions.Complete initial investigation, gather documentation required for all Material Error Reviews.Review and timely complete all Material Error Reviews assigned to you.Reassign Material Error Reviews to appropriate staff as necessary.Responsible for answering/coordinating Escalated Call Backs, as needed.Responsible for answering/coordinating Legal and Hearings inbox, as needed.Responsible for assisting with constituent matters between legal and lines of business, as needed.Assist Legislative Director with state officials. as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either a Master’s Degree with 1+ years of experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of experience, or a Associate’s Degree with 5+ years of experience, or at least 7+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role. You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:Specialized knowledge in program subject matter obtained through experience and/or education. Specialized knowledge of program area including pertinent rules and regulations.Extensive knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs.Ability to develop and implement new principles and policies and discern any far-reaching implications.Ability to communicate orally and in writing.The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles.Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skill sets.
