Job Summary
The Coordinator - Competitive Sports & Student Development is responsible for the administration of the intramural sport and sport club programs. The coordinator will collaborate with campus partners and department teammates to plan, schedule, and administer these programs. In addition, the coordinator will give direction to ensure a department-wide student development experience.
This position works on-site at the Jax State Recreation and Fitness Center client location. Located in the Appalachian foothills almost midway between Birmingham and Atlanta, JSU has grown from very humble beginnings as a state teachers college in 1883 into the Alabama regional university with the highest percentage of accredited programs.
Essential Functions
Develop, schedule, and register participants for intramural and club programsTrain officiating mechanics and game, conflict & risk management skillsDevelop and communicate intramural sport rules and program participation policies & procedures; Develop and communicate club policies & proceduresSupervise competitive sport contests and provide staff with on-site evaluationsManage and inventory intramural sport equipment and suppliesEvaluate performance and program effectiveness; Ensure programs stay in line with all the current trends and rulesResponsible for the operating, preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to program areaPrepare regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports, financial and participation reports and equipment inventory reports
Staff Supervision
Hire, manage, train and supervise intramural officials, supervisorsResponsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports in preparation for payroll
Site-Specific Responsibilities
Lead the comprehensive employee orientation and in-service training programCoordinate employee recognition programs; responsible for planning and executing the end of the year staff recognitionAdvise the student employee advisory committee
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or 4 or more years of work experience requiredExperience working in higher education, recreation, or sportsDemonstrated experience in managing and organizing intramurals and/or clubsOfficiating experience preferred
