Environmental Field Scientist – Asbestos, Lead, Mold and Industrial Hygiene

Terracon is seeking an Environmental Field Scientist for our growing Asbestos, Lead and Industrial Hygiene (IH) practice in our Omaha, Nebraska office. The Environmental Field Scientist is responsible for carrying out field investigations and writing associated reports under the direction of senior management and other leadership. The Field Scientist would support experienced staff personnel across a variety of local and national projects to eventually become proficient in completing investigations on their own. Studying for and obtaining job related certifications are required and will be supported by Terracon.

Core Responsibilities

Conduct tasks related to project monitoring, asbestos/lead inspections, indoor air quality (IAQ)/mold assessments, and/or other project assignments as appropriatePerform air monitoring duties for asbestos abatement activities – from inspection to abatement oversight and monitoringAnalyze laboratory and engineering dataPrepare draft reports for review by senior managementMaintain consistent communication of project progress with senior management from start to finish of the projectMake employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Certification as asbestos and/or lead inspector, NIOSH 582 certification, mold certification or IH experiencePromote a positive client experienceAbility to work in a team and communicate effectively with other field personal and managementBusiness awareness: specific knowledge of the customer and how Terracon can bring value to the marketplacePhysical ability to carry equipment up to 35 pounds, climb ladders, get in and out of basements and attic spaces, etc.Periodic out-of-area travel for projects including some stays up to a weekAbility to work at state and governmental facilitiesAbility to wear a respiratorAbility to work in moldy/dusty environments

Knowledge, Skills, And/or Abilities Required

Ability to study and pass various certification programsProficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)Typing skills to ensure quick and accurate entry of technical reportsSelf-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving environmentExcellent time management skills, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize workAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsWillingness for regional travel for businessAbility to pass a background check for Federal and school facilities

Additional Requirements

High School degree or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field preferred)Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
