JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

We are searching for an Accountant to join the Post Award team in our Accounting Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). This position will be primarily responsible for the closeout of awards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Analyze program costs and ensure compliance with the contract terms and conditions and university policiesPerform journal entries as necessaryConfirm proper invoicing and posting of incomePrepare rate verifications for financial closeout documentation, and verify all final contractual documentation has been provided to the sponsorAct as a liaison with key stakeholders to include ARL Contracts, ARL Accounting, Research Accounting, ARL Property, and ARL Technical Offices in order to perform the assigned taskingPrepare special invoices and provide financial backup as necessary for a subset of agreementsAdditional duties such as status tracking and maintaining a closeout listing; identifying, implementing, and streamlining process improvements; and writing/updating internal standard operating proceduresAd-hoc exercises as they arise

Required skills and experience include

Strong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skillsDetail-orientedStrong interpersonal skillsAbility to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and writtenAbility to adapt to change in a fast paced environmentAbility to work independentlyIntermediate experience with Excel

Preferred skills include

Proficient knowledge of government and industrial grants and contractsSuccessful completion of the PSU ACES courseBasic knowledge of Word, Power Point, and Outlook3+ years of experience in commercial Enterprise Resource Planning system, such as SAP or Oracle e-Business SuiteAn active government security clearance

This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.

Your working location can be fully remote, hybrid (onsite/work from home), or fully on-site in State College, PA.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
