The San Diego City Attorney's Office protects the people of San Diego by serving as chief legal counsel to the City of San Diego’s elected officials and operational departments, prosecuting and defending civil cases involving the City, and as the City’s prosecutor on behalf of the People of the State of California, by holding accountable those who commit crimes against the public health and safety and violate other local and state laws. Our municipal law firm employs over 175 lawyers and approximately 220 support staff dedicated to providing legal services to the City of San Diego.
The Civil Advisory Division is recruiting to fill a Deputy City Attorney position in the Environment Unit of the Environment and Land Use Section . The selected candidate will report directly to this section's Chief Deputy City Attorney.
Deputy City Attorneys in the Environment Unit primarily advise the City’s Stormwater Department, Environmental Services Department, and Sustainability Department. Duties for the Environment Unit position include advising on solid waste management, stormwater, and water quality regulations, Clean Water Act/NPDES permit compliance, flood control operations and liability, recycling programs such as the Zero Waste Plan, landfill operations, hazardous waste management, fees, and taxes, energy use and independence, renewable energy and sustainability, energy management, utility regulation, and utility franchises.

The following wage increases are scheduled to go into effect for Deputy City Attorneys:
An additional 5% general wage increase will be effective July 1, 2024. An additional 5% general wage increase will be effective January 1, 2025. An additional 5% general wage increase will be effective July 1, 2025.
