Job Summary

The school social worker focuses on coordinating the efforts of the school, the family, and the community toward helping students improve their academic achievement and social, emotional, and behavioral competence by using their unique perspective of viewing the person in their environment. School social workers seek to ensure equitable education opportunities; ensure that students are mentally, physically, and emotionally present in the classroom; and promote respect and dignity for all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of the School Social Worker will include, but not be restricted to, the following:

Provide clinical interventions to support students in working toward meeting the goals and objectives of their IEPs.Provide group and individual counseling to students with a focus on improved socialization skills.Assist classroom teachers in implementing social and behavioral programs in the classroom.Assess and analyze the social and adaptive characteristics of students to assist teachers in working with students to achieve social and behavioral goals and objectives.Guide parents to assist them in understanding and seeking a resolution to the emotional and social needs of their children.Collaborate and coordinate services with other support service professionals, including but not limited to Child Study Team members, treating therapists, treating psychiatrists, and treating psychologists.Provide clinical recommendations and referrals to outside treatment services to parents as needed.Provide periodic interviews with students on an individual basis regarding social, and emotional concerns or issues.Develop, monitor, and deliver school social, and behavioral programs/curricula.Counsel students on an as-needed basis to address their daily concerns throughout the school year.Meet on an as-needed basis with the members of the administration to provide input and develop strategies for the social, and emotional needs of the children.Attend meetings and conferences concerning students.Provide in-service and staff development programs.Other duties as assigned by the head of school or division director.

Qualification Requirements

Ability to uphold and support The Craig School’s mission, values, institutional goals, and educational philosophy to positively influence students served.Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, public health, or a closely related field Licensure/credential as required by the State of New Jersey to provide prevention and outpatient clinical services (LSW, LPC, LISW, LPCC). At least two (2) years of professional experience in a social service agency or a school setting, independent school preferred. Ability to provide and develop student prevention services.Ability to communicate articulately and effectively.Strong commitment to the coordination of services and working in a team environment.
