Senior Manager, Technical Accounting

Goodyear is seeking an experienced, credible and highly motivated finance executive to lead the Technical Accounting function at Goodyear. This is a senior role within our group finance function serving as Goodyear’s global technical expert as it relates to the interpretation, application and compliance with accounting and financial reporting rules and regulations.

This role represents the ‘critical conduit’ between the regulatory authorities and Goodyear’s operating businesses. This person is responsible for understanding the business implications of regulatory changes and communicating effectively with the business unit controllers and finance teams to ensure we stay infront of adopting and complying with new standards. As such, the role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to manage and work with senior stakeholders globally.

This person also plays a critical role in supporting major transactions and corporate activity. (S)he will work closely with the business development, corporate strategy and M&A teams, responsible for recording the transaction and authoring the Position Papers, working closely with our external auditors in the process.

Goodyear, represented by the Vice President and Controller, is a member of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Roundtable (“FARR”) of Financial Executives International (“FEI”). This person will work closely with the Vice President and Controller to analyze and develop responses to research studies, statements, pronouncements, pending legislation, proposals and other documents issued by domestic and international agencies and organizations. Additionally, industry groups and networks (such as FARR) allow us to have a collaborative and non-competitive dialogue with other companies to benchmark and discuss our activity in a way that ensures we continue to take a best-in-class approach to Technical Accounting at Goodyear.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Keep abreast of proposed new standards and interpretations. Communicate potential impacts, timing, significant elections, etc. to senior leadership and the global controller team.

Provide implementation leadership/oversight for the Company’s adoption of new standards and/or rules. This includes assessing and forecasting financial impacts, communication to cross-functional leadership, developing implementation instructions and assessing system and resource requirements.

Partner with Business Development and other functional areas to provide financial and technical accounting support for acquisition and divestiture activity, complex business transactions and other special projects. Identify and model the financial impact of significant accounting implications. Consult with the business team to offer alternatives to avoid unfavorable accounting treatments. Research and document the Company’s position in formal whitepapers and gain concurrence with the external auditors.

Build associate technical competency through

Development, communication and roll out of global standard policies and procedure manuals.

Design, create and deliver training sessions / programs.

Timely communication of trends, hot topics, etc. in function newsletters and town hall meetings.

Implementation of global standardization initiatives related to month end close such as account reconciliations and manual journal entries.

Understand the market and competitive environment, including general macro-economic factors, tire industry data, and the strategies and results of our competitors.

This role reports to our Vice President & Assistant Controller and manages a team of 2 direct reports.

KEY STAKEHOLDERS & RELATIONSHIPS

Internal – Corporate FP&A, SBU Controllers, Finance & Control Leadership.External – Auditors (PwC).

KEY EXPERIENCES DESIRED

~10 years of direct experience with the interpretation, analysis and application of complex accounting and financial reporting regulations in the employ of a large, global public accounting firm and/or corporate organization.

Track-record in supporting corporate activity and major transactions (i.e. M&A, Restructuring, Corporate Development). Experienced in authoring Position Papers to record our accounting position and provide effective financial reporting on complex transactions.

Experience working at (or advising) a large, multi-national manufacturing-based company is preferred. This is not limited to, but could include: Automotive, Consumer Good, FMCG, Chemicals, Diversified Manufacturing, Paper & Packaging and other asset-intensive industries.

Strong working knowledge & technical competency with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting rules, IFRS and rules and opinions of other standard setters (e.g., PCAOB) and the implication of convergence projects.

Experience in professional practice office of a public accounting firm or fellowship with the FASB or SEC preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification (current “inactive” status is acceptable). Advanced degree preferred (Master of Accountancy or MBA).
