📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Piper Health & Sciences is seeking a motivated Research Technician III to join the fight against emerging biological threats in support of the US Army in Frederick, MD. You would be directly supporting the molecular virology group by researching biodefense solutions of various bacterial and viral diseases!
Responsibilities For The Research Technician Include
Conduct manual, semi-automated, and automated experiments under GLP conditions in BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs. Perform DNA/RNA extraction and purification, PCR, RT-PCR, immunoassays, and sample preparation for projects. Execute common Microbiology techniques in BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments. Generate, collect, and analyze data to support the Special Pathogens Laboratory. Prepare Technical Reports. Maintain lab facility and equipment according to GLP regulations and Institute guidelines. Ensure safety and cleanliness of work areas and equipment. Perform experiments and documentation according to study-specific regulations and guidelines. Complete other assigned job-related duties.
Qualifications For The Research Technician Include
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields (Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, etc.). 1-2 years’ experience in microbiology/molecular biology labs required; 2+ years’ preferred. Proficiency in DNA/RNA extractions and purifications. Working knowledge of PCR and RT-PCR procedures. Familiarity with basic Molecular Biology Assays: ELISA, Western Blot, Plaque Assays, PRNT assays, PCR, etc. Willingness to work in BSL-2/3 high containment labs. Preferred prior experience in BSL-2 and BSL-3 biocontainment labs. Ability to obtain and maintain enrollment in the Biosurety Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP). Candidates subject to US Government security investigation and eligibility for BPRP participation. US citizenship is required.
Compensation For The Research Technician Includes
Salary Range: approximately $28 - $31 hourly, commensurate with experience Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, PTO options
