Title: Director of DevelopmentReports to: President/CEOEmployment Status: Full-time ABOUT THE LANDING: Founded in 2015, The Landing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Houston, Texas, that serves survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. We work to meet survivors wherever they are through street outreach and other interventions and welcome them into our drop-in center located on Bissonnet, a nationally known hotspot for trafficking. For children and youth who have been trafficked, our youth advocacy program provides 24/7 crisis response and support throughout the Greater Houston area. Our hope is to share the love of Christ and help survivors find safety, empowerment, and freedom. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the President/CEO, the Director of Development (DD) is responsible for creating and executing a development plan that will provide long-term stability and sustainability as well as overseeing daily activities of The Landing’s development team and strategies, including major donor program, fundraising campaigns, special events, grant writing, community partnerships, prospect/donor engagement, and communications/marketing. As a member of the Leadership Team, the DD works closely with the CEO, staff, and the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors and maintains a visible presence as an ambassador of the agency in the community. The DD manages the development team, and in partnership with the CEO and Board of Directors, the DD develops the annual fundraising strategy and researches, identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards new and established donors, including individuals, community/private foundations, churches, and local businesses. This position has significant opportunity for impact and growth in a young, rapidly growing nonprofit organization. This is a full-time paid position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: RESPONSIBILITIES: Major GiftsCultivate and steward an initial portfolio of 20-30 major donors and partners to ensure retention and growth of supportIdentify and cultivate additional major gift donors with capacity and inclination to support The Landing’s mission, expanding portfolio to a maximum of 50 donorsAdvise and support the CEO in managing her portfolio of top tier donors· Development Team Managemento Manage development team, including Mobilization Manager, Grant Coordinator, and Marketing Coordinatoro Provide oversight of mobilization activities, including community engagement, church and business partnerships, and volunteerso Oversee marketing and communication plans and activitieso Oversee government, foundation, corporate, and church grant proposals and reporting· Development Planning & Oversighto Develop the annual fundraising strategy under the direction of the CEO and Board of Directors; ensure the execution of the strategyo Expand The Landing’s fundraising strategy, including scaling a major gifts program and developing a planned giving program and non-cash giving optionso Engage board, staff, and volunteers in supporting the fundraising goals of the organization; attend board meetings and provide detailed fundraising reportso Oversee all donor acknowledgment activities and ensure donor records are maintained in CRM (Salesforce)o Measure and report on the progress of reaching organization budget goals monthlyo Oversee reporting and reconciliation of revenue with Operations Manager and CEOo Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues· Community Engagemento Represent the organization externally, developing community relationships as well as attending and speaking at identified community engagement events· Special Eventso Establish event plan and design for agency’s signature annual fundraising evento Secure top tier sponsors for signature annual fundraising event and oversee strategy for sponsorship procuremento Oversee planning and execution of special events with support from the development team and Board External Affairs Committee· Leadershipo As a member of The Landing’s Leadership Team, participate in ongoing leadership meetings and contribute to the development of The Landing’s strategic goalso Promote a culture of philanthropy by providing training and professional development to the board and staff related to effective fundraisingo Work to create positive, safe, non-judgmental atmosphere for all and maintain unity in the officeo Grow knowledge of human trafficking field and philanthropy best practices through continual training and educationo Continuously improve the development function through enhancing processes, systems, and planningo Other duties as assigned by the CEO QUALIFICATIONS:Must embrace the mission and vision of The Landing, agree with The Landing’s statement of faith, and abide by the code of conductDemonstrated experience in fundraising, event planning, public relations, marketing, development and/or sales with measurable resultsDemonstrated successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major individual and institutional donors· Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers· Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in business or a related field, or equivalent experienceValid Driver’s License· High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint· Familiarity with donor database software, such as Salesforce· Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for fundraising and stewardship events SKILLS:· Displays Fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control· Possesses the following values: (Organizational Values: Love, Integrity, Honor, Social Equity) and (Team Values: Wisdom, Christlikeness, Heart for Justice, Excellence, Innovation, Influence, Humility, Unity) · Knowledgeable or willing to learn about the issue of human trafficking and passionate about the mission of The LandingBe a “self-starter” who possesses a strong work ethic, takes initiative, and proactively sets and achieves goals, including initiating donor visits and fundraising calls, driving the execution of the annual fundraising strategy, and identifying new development strategiesMust have exceptional interpersonal communication, public speaking, proofreading, and writing skillsMotivated to get out of the office and build external relationshipsBe aware and knowledgeable of the Houston philanthropic community and surrounding counties and citiesPossess strong organizational skills, planning abilities, time management, and attention to detail; must be able to follow through on all assigned tasks and goalsDisplay a positive attitude, demonstrate professional presence and self-confidence, and possess good listening skillsMust be comfortable working with Board members and community leaders, and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of peopleStrong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to manage ambiguity· Knowledge of project management tools and techniques· Ability to maintain flexible work schedule, multi-task, collaborate effectively with others, and manage several projects at once in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment· A strong desire to be challenged and constantly improving and adapting skills;
