Position Summary

The Seasonal Retail Associate is a part-time, seasonal position (May-October) at the Appleton Farm Store and reports directly to Farm Store management. In this role, you will perform day-to-day operations, including: operating the cash register; processing online orders for pickup; selling Trustees memberships; restocking products; maintaining store cleanliness; and providing exceptional customer service as an ambassador of Appleton Farms and the Trustees.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for: food and cooking; sustainable agriculture and local farming; and community relationships and supporting small, local businesses. You model excellence in customer service and have experience contributing to all onsite requirements, with a general knowledge of online marketplaces; and the ability to learn new computer systems. This position requires someone who is a self-starter and has the ability to function independently and with a team. Candidate must be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of one year of work experience. Candidate must be able to consistently lift up to 40lbs & stand for long periods of time (at least 6 hours).

The Seasonal Retail Associate will have a weekly schedule of 10-20 hours per week (not to exceed 28 hours per week within the Appleton Farms Store hours of operation (Tuesday-Friday 9AM-7PM and Saturday-Sunday 9AM5PM) The position is for approximately 15 hours per week, depending on the week and candidate’s availability. Start date is early May. The season runs through October.

Pay Rate: $16.25 per hour

Essential Functions

In This Role You Will

Upholding high standards of customer service, including greeting every customer, educating them about Appleton Farms and The Trustees, and helping them in a friendly manner. Must demonstrate familiarity with store products, answer phone calls, follow up on voicemails, and resolve customer complaints in person or over phone/e-mail, elevating to management as needed. Maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety. Adhere to all Board of Health requirements for food safety and proper storage Managing the POS system, including online and in person sales. Responsible for cash handling; reconciling the cash drawer at end of day; conducting credit card transactions; and handling returns and refunds. Performing opening and closing duties related to cash reconciliation, organization, and cleanliness. Assisting with inventory controls, including managing expiration dates; restocking shelves; merchandising; pricing new items and listing online with photographs and descriptions; and updating in-store signage. Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

Math skills for handling and counting cash Computer and POS system knowledge Able to consistently lift 40lbs & stand for long periods of time (at least 6 hours) Prior customer service and food service experience (ServSafe certification a plus) Knowledge of agriculture, meat and dairy products preferred

Other Requirements

Candidate must be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of one year of work experience. Food Safety Certification (Servsafe) or willingness to obtain certification, if needed, preferred.
