📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities

In early 2020, we launched a US edition and have grown the business to more than140 staff, hitting all traffic and revenue targets to become the fastest-growing newswebsite in the US.
We are now looking for an Assistant Editor to join the backbench team, helping oversee all verticals on the website to ensure copy is produced swiftly, in the tabloid style, and with no legal issues.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic journalist who thrives in a fast-paced digital newsenvironment; is organized, and can juggle and prioritize content from multiple desksevery shift. They must be a self-starter, and a team player, who can make importanteditorial decisions.
The role will require some weekend work in which you’ll be expected to oversee the entire website and make final calls on editorial and legal decisions.
The candidate must be legally allowed to work in the US.
Purpose of role: To help oversee daily, weekly, and monthly output from all the desks byWorking with reporters and editors to hone articles and ensure we publish world-class stories and exclusives.
Key Accountabilities:● Play a key role in the ongoing development and execution of The U.S. Sun’saudience-led strategy.● Help oversee each desk to ensure we are the first to break storiesand cover brand-building lines that fit our audience strategy.● Provide regular training to reporters.● Work with the picture team to identify and buy agency sets that’ll likely do traffic.● Aid in recruitment and staff members’ career development within thecompany.● Edit copy and brief reporters if needed.● Work flexibly, including evening and weekend shifts.
Key Skills and Experience:● Must have journalism qualifications and a strong background in newsreporting.● More than five years experience in a digital publishing environment.● Have experience managing a team.● A keen understanding of the media within the US legal landscape.
