Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

The transportation planner will apply planning theory and knowledge to lead and deliver transportation projects for clients. Common project areas may include master planning, multimodal transportation planning, transit planning, freight and rail planning, environmental analysis, public engagement activities, and grant writing and administration.

The right candidate will be able to lead projects, mentor other teammates, and focus on client service. Candidates should be proactive, organized, and able to independently navigate subject matter related to transportation programs and projects. The transportation planner will work with a team of planners, engineers, and other related professionals to deliver high-quality projects that improve communities across the Midwest and nationwide.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepare planning documents for multimodal transportation plans, studies, and related projectsConduct research and data analysis to inform planning deliverables and recommendationsManage project budgets, staff, schedules, and other project related activities Coordinate and lead work efforts with clients and team membersParticipate on interdisciplinary teams to provide knowledge in specialized planning areasAssist in quality review of deliverables and provide guidance to junior staff Lead meetings with clients, stakeholders, elected officials, and the public Engage in business development activities including marketing services, proposal preparation, interviews, and project scoping

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering, or a related field required8+ years of experience requiredProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointDemonstrated success independently managing projects and coordinating responsibilities with other teammates to complete project deliverables Ability to effectively communicate with clients and maintain high levels of client satisfactionEnergetic and positive attitude with a teamwork focused mentalityStrong work ethic to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced settingActively engage multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:

Master’s Degree in Planning, Engineering, or a related field preferredAmerican Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or related certifications preferredProficiency in tools such as GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar programs Experience working with state Departments of Transportations (DOTs)Experience in federal grant writing and/or grant administrationMotivation to pursue work for a growing team including managing client relationships, developing business proposals, and preparing project scopesPassion for enhancing professional and technical skills by attending trainings and participating in professional organizations
