Summary

Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage.

Essential Functions (responsibilities, Tasks, Supervisory Needs)

Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage.Reads PH levels and make appropriate pump adjustments as needed.Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements.Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings.Collects sewage sample and conducts laboratory tests.Oversees and completes water-desludging.Operates and maintains power generating equipment to provide steam and electricity for plant. Cross trains in Recycling.Sanitizes equipment.Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned

Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

Must be a current Trident Seafoods employee or have worked for Trident Seafoods before

One to two years’ experience working with wastewater controls, BDU’s, storm drain maintenance and wastewater recyclingMust have proven record in chemical compliance with regards to wastewaterGrade II Certification in Water and Wastewater from the State of AlaskaAssociate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school. One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

The employee will frequently be subject to the following conditions: Wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, subject to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme heat and cold, and vibration. The work environment is loud.

Physical demands

This position may be required to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy loads and working in cold environments. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
