Lab Technician 1

The Lab Technician will be qualified to undertake a variety of laboratory procedures of technical nature.They will be handling sensitive equipment to analyze samples or substances, conducting tests andreporting findings. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with both hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, including flammables and corrosive chemicals. They will be well-trained to maintain safety conditionsand will be passionate for doing work that makes things move forward. The goal is to optimize lab procedures and succeed in producing reliable and important results that can be used to make a difference.

Duties and responsibilities• Be able to work the hours of 10AM to 6:30PM, with some weekends as needed• Receive, label and analyze samples according to standard operating procedures and under guidance from senior technicians or management• Record observations and interpret data. Recommending blend adjustments as needed to the lab manager or senior technicians• Review certificates of analysis on incoming raw materials and generate certificates on outbound finished goods.• Conduct experiments under defined conditions to verify/reject various types of hypotheses using refined scientific methods• Organize and store all chemicals substances, fluids according to safety instructions• Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment as required and assist in ordering laboratory supplies• Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment• Perform all work in strict accordance with Environmental, Health and Safety Policies as well as procedures• Perform all work in strict accordance with operating policies, procedures and checklists• Climb tank stairs, operate valves and pumps, gauge tanks• Maintain training in Safety and Hazmat requirements

Qualifications• 1-3 years’ experience in quality control, laboratory operations, and/or research & development.•Experience in operating, calibrating, verifying, and/or maintaining instruments including, but notlimited to: viscometers, coulometers, digital pH meters, auto titrators, colorimeter, digital refractometers, densitometers, UV-Vis spectrophotometers• Knowledge with lab testing: specific gravity, pH, karl fisher, acid titrations, etc• In depth knowledge of HSE Systems, preventative measures and laboratory best practices• Experience working in the manufacture or analysis of ingredients or finished goods for the oil &gas, construction and industrial sectors• Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems• Autonomously work on several projects/tasks simultaneously.• Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in biology, chemistry or relevant field• Must be Safety and Hazmat Certified; Houston Area Safety Counsel/ within 90 days of hire date.• Experience handling and working with both hazardous and nonhazardous chemicals, including: powdered materials, flammables, corrosive liquids and strong acids/bases• Must be able to accept supervision/direction and work effectively & cooperatively with others• Must be able to pass respirator fit test; Houston Area Safety Counsel or other approved fit test facility

Working conditions• Work is inside and outside.• Outside work is subject to any and all elements• Must be able to work in outdoors environment• Must be willing to work overtime as needed• Must be able to work in extreme working conditions such as inclement weather conditions• Must be able to work in elevated work areas• Able to work with wrenches and other basic tools

Physical requirements• Ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds.• Ability to climb ladders• Ability to climb under rail cars• Ability to work in an office and laboratory environment.• Able to handle working with chemicals, acids and petroleum products and be around vaporswith respiratory protection
