Position Purpose

The Nutrition Assistant provides accurate timely information to service and production areas of department regarding the appropriate meals, between meal nourishments and special formulas required by each individual patient. Integrates knowledge of modified diet, food service systems and individual patient needs and requests in preparation of patient menus. Generates various production reports to ensure a high level of patient satisfaction, compliance with physician’s orders and accurate food production. Oversees daily functions of the diet office staff. Responsible for communication to/from the Clinical Nutrition Supervisor.

What You Will Do

Maintains patient dietary files in the hospital IS and dietary computer system.Assists patients with menu choices to be in compliance with physician or RD order.Performs bedside menu entry for patients on assigned units.Generates production tally reports for meals.Generates nourishment/tube feeding list and labels.Generates and organizes tray tickets.Takes appropriate action with error messages from dietary computer system interface.Maintains necessary back-up reports and tray ticket in case of downtime.Responsible for training of new employees.

Minimum Qualifications

High school level of GED required.Previous related experience is preferred.No certification, registration or licensure required.Work requires the analytical ability to gather and interpret data in situations where the information or problems are not overly difficult or complete.
