Saint Francis Hospital is seeking an experienced Full-time Public Safety Constable to join our team!

This opening is for a night shift position working 1800 to 0600 hours on a 2/3/2 rotation (every other Fri/Sat/Sun off).

The Public Safety Constable is the front line of the Public Safety Team. They work as part of a team and independently in an armed capacity to ensure the safety and security of all staff, patients, and visitors and all property owned or operated by Saint Francis Hospital. The Public Safety Constable reports to the Public Safety Sergeant on duty. This position is responsible for providing the highest quality service that aligns with the core values of Saint Francis and Trinity Health. During times of staff shortage or exigent situations, overtime may be requested.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.A valid motor vehicle license and a satisfactory driving record are required. Must be able to obtain an Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) license within one year of employment.Must maintain weapon certifications in accordance with the Delaware State Police Professional Licensing Section and departmental standards.CPR and AED certification is required within six months of employment.Prior law enforcement experience is preferred. The candidate must be able to meet the requirements of a Constable (State of Delaware) in accordance with Title 24, Chapter 56 of the Delaware Code, within 18 months of hire.Must have a minimum of two years' experience in law enforcement, security, and/or public service (Fire/EMS) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous hospital experience is preferred.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated abilities in crisis management, including willingness and ability to perform alone or as a team member in the management of aggressive or violent behavior.Possess the ability to deal tactfully with colleagues, patients, and visitors.The colleagues must obtain, at the colleague's expense, an IAHSS Basic and Advanced Training Certificate or higher within six months of employment and maintain an Advanced Training Certificate, at a minimum, for the duration of employment.

What you will do

Initiate and receive communications, via telephone, radio, email or other computer systems.Communicate verbally, or in writing, promptly, courteously and accurately while maintain poise at all times.Appropriately refer any problems or issues beyond scope of authority to Security Manager on Duty and the Hospital Manager on duty.Follow standard procedures and uses personal protective equipment per policy at all times.Document in a timely manner all relevant safety and security information.Patrol the hospital and other HCH properties as required.Take action as required, participating in all emergency codes and requests for assistance.Act independently, managing critical situations that may involve aggressive behavior.Take action as necessary to ensure the safety of Hospital Associates, patients and visitors.Assist in moving, lifting or dragging individuals to safety.Assist in bringing safety equipment to the scene of an emergency or as required.Assist in restraining individuals as necessary to maintain the safe environment of the hospital.Assist in restraining individuals as required to prevent those individuals from placing themselves or others in harm's way.Participate as an active member of various Security and Safety committees.Serve as a departmental resource specialist, consulting on Safety and Security issues to all Associates.Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to Protective Services throughout The Holy Cross Hospital.Review all departmental Security and Safety Policies and Procedures on an ongoing basis.As directed, evaluate the effectiveness of Protective measures throughout the hospital through reports.Prepare recommendations and documentation that provides direction to correct reported deficiencies.Recommend action plans to department managers based on regular protection audits.Prepare and submit reports of audits to various safety committees and administration.Review the following daily: security related incidents and reports of Associate injury, and other related security hazards.As directed, document monthly safety data and prepares reports for the Manager of Protective ServicesAs directed, conduct Security and Safety investigations of significant incidentsAs directed, develop curriculum and conducts Security and Safety awareness programs throughout the Hospital.Participate in the ongoing in-service education of the hospital personnel and others as it relates to the safety and security of the Hospital.Demonstrate expertise in facilitating adult learning.Review safety and security reports, prepare analysis and assists in the implementation of Holy Cross Hospital Healthcare Protection Program.As directed participate in orientation of new employees to the Safety and Security Program.Maintain professional competence through participation in continuing education and other learning experiences.Remain informed of current trends in Hospital Security and Safety. Serves as a role model, participating in professional organizations and community activities.

Minimum Requirements

Valid FL Driver's LicenseState of Florida Class D Security License required upon hireAssociate's degree in Criminal Justice, Safety Administration, Security, or other related field supplemented with at least one year of experience in a high public interaction position requiring the use of effective interpersonal skills. (note: equivalent related military experience or work experience in law enforcement, fire department, or emergency response service may be substituted for the educational requirement at the discretion of the hiring manager)Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to demonstrate knowledge of basic computer skillsMust achieve a passing score on "Management of Aggressive Behavior" after employment.
