📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Staff AccountantA company in DC is currently seeking a Staff Accountant to perform a variety of operational and general ledger accounting functions with specific focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and credit card expense management. This role requires fundamental knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and adherence to the organizations’ established accounting policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIESEnsure timely and accurate payment of all invoices and reimbursement requests by performing day-to-day accounts payable and related cash disbursement functions.Maintain accounts receivable and cash management ledgers by creating grants/contributions receivable invoices, applying related cash receipts, and recording all other deposits.Prepare and remit quarterly interest billing invoices and principal maturity noticesAssist in the oversight of the credit card and travel expense management system, including review of detailed transactions and receipts submitted by cardholders.Provide internal administrative support and act as a resource to credit card expense management system end users.Record general ledger transactions per bank and investment statements.Perform general ledger account analysis and reconciliations, primarily for bank and credit card accounts.Maintain fixed assets schedule and propose related capitalization/depreciation journal entries.Complete all bookkeeping functions within the loan management system for affiliate investment funds.Provide broad support and address inquiries from teammates around current finance and accounting processes and org wide accepted best practices.Assist in the annual external audits, tax, and other regulatory filings.Support in board meeting preparation and document organization as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.Minimum 2 years accounting experience.Previous non-profit experience preferred.Experience using Sage Intacct Accounting or similar accounting software is a plus.Investment management fund bookkeeping and accounting experience is a plusAn interest in addressing economic inequality especially for low income Americans of color; experience in the urban, social change field is a significant assetUnderstanding of internal controls and GAAP necessary to successfully perform required duties.
REQUIRED SKILLS:Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Electronic recordkeeping and file management.High level of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail.Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills with able to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines.Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information and interact with all levels of management.Ability to adapt and commit to organizational culture, values, and norms.
