Position Description
Under the supervision of the Legal Department's team of in house attorneys, provide support related primarily to the area of Construction law (e.g., contract, real estate, tort, and/or insurance law), and related topics. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, legal research and writing, interpretation and application of laws and regulations, and reviewing, evaluating and editing contracts and other legal documents.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Research construction and contract-related legal topics Assist with analysis of potential contractual and project-related risks Assist with legal drafting Participate in legal department team meetings Shadow members of the legal department in performing their roles Prepare for and participate in opportunities of learning afforded by company. Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelorβs degree; JD degree in progress from an ABA-accredited law school.
Current first-year law student (class of 2024) with an interest in construction law-related topics (e.g., contract, real estate, tort, and/or insurance law)
Ability to work approximately 40 hours per week during the summer.
Self-starter with an interest in in-house practice and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver high quality work.
Able to work independently, with minimal oversight in team environment
Organizational skills; ability to accurately manage and document informationProven written and oral communication abilities with an emphasis on problem solving and negotiation, as well as ability to explain legal concepts to non-lawyers.
Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and Westlaw.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret contracts.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff at all levels, both internal and external.
Ability to travel locally to a construction project site in the area, if needed.

Work Environment
On a regular basis this job is performed in an office environment with usual office working conditions, free of disagreeable elements. On an occasional basis, the employee may travel to and work at a job site location or client office location and be located in a trailer or other temporary structure. The noise in this work environment may be moderately loud.
